Okay so there has been so much talk on forums since a post on DPReview talked about a April 22nd launch date for the replacement to the Canon 5D. I find it kind of interesting that the $200 mail-in-rebate stopped on April 19th, the Friday before the 22nd. This would boost sales of the 5D to help clear stock for the future 7D or 5D Mark II, whichever name they choose.
I posted some interesting numbers on my blog if you care to check them out...http://mikerichardsphotography.blogspot.com.
If the new Canon does not get announced tomorrow, I will probably go cry.

I hope you are right cuz I was just at a camera store yesterday and they said more like in the Fall... and I've been saving up my pennies!

Think about it this way...a camera store is going to be one of the last to get a new body unless they are big. If they tell you a new camera may be coming out soon, then more than likely, you will wait for the new camera and not buy one they have sitting in their store. Then because they will be one of the last to get the new body, you will probably order it online.
Lets hope I am right though, I hate crying.

I'll stick with my 1D bodies (1Ds II and 1D II N) but you guys enjoy your new 5D/7D thingy... it will be just as expensive as the 1Ds II bodies are lightly used....

Yeah but does the 1Ds Mark II (or II N for that matter) even compare to the specs of the new 5D? I am serious, I don't know much about the 1D series. I would be looking for better ISO performance.

Oh don't get him started Mike

hehehe. The biggest suggestion I have, is find a camera you like and rock it... just because someone likes a 1Ds MKII doesn't mean you will. We shoot with 5D's and 1DMKII's we like them both for different reasons. 5D's for full frame, low noise, beautiful color goodness the 1DMKII's for weather sealed, high FPS, awesome daylight goodness.

April 21 2008, 04:51 PM
No, don't get me wrong, I love my 5D! I was just curious because I never looked into them since I love 5D's so much. If the new one doesn't come out, I will get getting another 5D in time.

if youre looking for HIGHER ISO's then you'd probably benefit from the 5DII/7D or a Mark III in that case. Honestly though, people have worked for YEARS with nothing higher than 3200 ISO and I believe in working with the tools available to you. Sure it's GREAT having 25 THOUSAND ISO, but really? I'd rather have the original 1D form factor, the weather sealing, the 17 megapixel sensor and the reliability that the 1D bodies are known for than anything else.
im sure you'll find something that works for you though... just my .02

Dude I had both my 1DMKII shutters blow within 2 weeks of each other... just over 100,000 shots on each body... quality

hehehehehe

April 21 2008, 05:04 PM
Oh, I don't want 25K ISO, but like you said, it would be nice! I use 1600 all the time with my 5D and it kills my D300. I would love the weather sealing of the 1D but I think I would get a 1Ds, I LOVE full frame!
MeeksDigital
April 21 2008, 05:40 PM
1Ds has weather sealing as well - all 1D series bodies have it. believe me, they're worth it. You can pick up a nice used 1Ds II for about 4k or less

Its a great country you should move here... people don't truly understand wide open spaces till they come here. When we leave Winnipeg, you literally go from city to nothingness for miles and miles and miles

while you guys were so busy looking for the 5DII/7D, did you see the rebel XSi on canoneos.com or has that been out for somet time? i don't pay attention to consumer cameras that much, so i wouldn't know.... but im just THRILLED to know that uncle bob can now have a 12.2 megapixel sensor in his eager little hands!

"Rick Rolled" is the new internet practical joke. The goal is to try and get someone to click on a link thinking it will take them somewhere and they are brought back to this video. Not that I have ever been on the receiving end of this one *cough*
