You are going to be in SHOCK. Not only does it work so amazingly, but the screens are sooo shockingly gorgeous~ the 24 inch seems huge, too!

As to Aperture vs. Lightroom--- although I am a hardcore Apple fangirl, and wanted to love Aperture, I prefer LR.
Aperture of course has a GORGEOUS layout and some people prefer how it runs to LR; it also has a book layout ability. The downside to Aperture is that you can't do global presets like you can in LR. In LR, there are "presets" that you can define-- you mouse over a list, see a thumbnail of what it would look like, click and set it to everything. I have presets I've downloaded as well as custom-made ones like General, SaturatedVignetted, and Dark Vintage...
I use the global presets too much, and they save me too much time, to switch to Aperture
