I love macs and do all my work on a mac pro, so there is no convincing me to buy one. I want to buy a macbook pro to have a sleek looking laptop to show slideshows at wedding. Right now I am using a decent Gateway laptop that runs on windows xp. There is no problem with the PC just would like something sleeker. I bought the Gateway about a year ago, but it only has 1 gig of ram in it. I think the only problem with the PC is the battery life. I always need to plug it in at receptions or it will die in a couple hours. Don't know how the battery life is on the macbook pros, but I'm assuming they are better than 2 hours. So my question for everyone is, is my reasoning for buying a macbook pro a good one? I barely use my Gateway laptop now, mostly because I love my mac pro and it runs a lot smoother than my gateway. I'm sure if I bought a macbook pro I would use it more than Gateway.

totally a personal decision on if the coolness-to-cost ratio is worth it. I mean if you just want something sleek to show your pics at a reception, there are plenty of good digital frames that cost less.

i guess if you're doing fast hardcore editing to those images before putting them up on a slideshow it would save tons of time and seem like a good *business* decision

Yeah, the Gateway isn't that slow, just frustrating dealing with windows at a wedding when you want everything to go smoothly. From the startup time and closing things that pop up for no reason at all, like the antivirus I unistalled. Frustrates me to want to buy a Macbook pro for that reason alone, lol. But macs just look so much more professional IMO. I feel more organized with my mac pro and I like the fact that I can customize it to make it my own, plus having my programs one click away saves me time.

Macbook pros are AWESOME!

Laura and I both have one, course hers is the 17 and I only have a dinky 15 but I'm fine with that. I've yet to have mine last 2 hours on the battery though. I'm sure if I dropped the brightness down and turned off the wireless and all that it would but I use that stuff.


Here's my suggestion: WAIT!
if you can live with what you have for a bit longer... do it. The rumor sites are all buzzing now about whats about to come out so you really should wait and see what happens. You'll make out way better by doing so. IF something cool does come out you can get the latest and greatest or you can get the older model even cheaper as Apple tries to clear stock of them. Any day now we should be hearing about the new Macbooks in Aluminum, so keep a look out for something new in the Macbook pro line around the same time.

I'm going to wait. I'm in no rush the Gateway I have works fine. But eventually I will go with a 15 inch macbook pro.

For me I'm just too frugal to purchase an mbp just to look sleek at the reception. I look sleek myself so I don't need a laptop to do it for me. hahahaha. I'm really just kidding. Now if you justify it with using it for other things like watching dvd's etc., then maybe. Seriously, maybe you should just get a used macbook instead... any mac product has the cool factor and should work. Just my 2 cents.

I don't tend to buy a lot of things used. I like the 15 inch macbook pro, I just am going to wait a little bit until the new ones come out.

I have my tax returns set aside for a 15” one but am also waiting for the new models. Any idea when? I’m thinking June.

uhhh the new ones are already out. HD resolution screens... new processors... they just came out like a month ago. i don't forsee any major updates within the next 2 months.

I'm just going to wait a little bit, the price of them aren't going any higher like gas. I don't need it for a little bit. But when I get it, it will look so sexy. lol.

you can use academic pricing (even if you aren't a student) and save yourself 200 bucks... keep that in mind.
