5.4 Earthquake in Southern IN/IL
Who felt it???
I was scared to death. I was in bed with my son who just woke up and it shook the bed. I wanted to scream but was almost too scared too.
I live in Northern Indiana.
I called my dad who just lives a mile down the road and he was awaken by it, he heard his closet doors rattle.
My husband on the otherhand was in the shower and didn't feel it. Isn't that nuts. He works in lifts all the time so he said he feels like that alot so maybe that is part of the reason.

It woke us up here in Greenfield, IN. We were really not sure what to think at first. Our windows were shaking pretty bad, but no damage. I wonder if it will happen again?

That's crazy! I live in Florida, I've never felt one, but I imagine it would be so frightening! I'm glad you're all okay!

The epicenter was around Mt. Carmel, Illinois - I'm a little over an hour away, and in a 5th floor suite. It shook pretty hard for a good 10-12 seconds... we didn't really have any personal property damage, but I think the water pipes in our building took a big hit. They reported that it was a 5.2 magnitude. That's quite a lot for the middle of the continent! The last time this area saw that kind of movement was in 1987, in almost the exact same spot. There's something stirring under these corn fields!!

I was standing in my home office and heard the windows start to rattle. Then the ceiling fan got out of balance and started squeaking. Kind of an exciting way to start the day!

We actually had a "sonic boom" two nights ago in Kokomo that was caused by two fighter jets, or so they say. Speculations of meteor showers, etc...But anyways...So to have this happen the next day is very ironic.
I slept through it, but my wife woke up and said the armoir doors were swaying and the mirror from the dresser was a little jiggly.
KC...are you sure that the ceiling fan wasn't out of balance from you swinging from it like Tarzan???

people here on the local KC radio stations were airing callers who said they felt it, i was still sleeping so it wasn't enough to wake me, but one of my dogs was crying at me, and she normally doesn't cry in the morning, so it makes sense that she might have felt a disturbance in the force lol

On Wisconsin! I knew there was a reason I liked it here. Except the tornados, those make me a little nervous.

Really, wow!! The last time I "heard" a sonic boom was when I was in college in Kingsville TX at the air show at the air force base...it's scared the crap out of everyone there because they weren't expecting it. One of the Blue Angels was flying straight towards the crowd but there was another one coming from behind the crowd. They crossed each other maybe a couple hundred yards in front of the crowd in an open field and the one flying from the back broke the sound barrier and it scared the crap out of everyone there.
But planes are not allowed to do that over land, especially in living areas, because the sonic boom doesn't really end, once the plane breaks the sound barrier and maintains that speed, the sonic boom travels with the plane from the plain to the ground and that stuff breaks windows and stuff like that. That is why the Concord plane was never allowed to fly over land, only over the ocean between NY and Europe.

Interestingly enough, we had a small earthquake here in Texas last week (or was it the week before?). It was a 3.7 and the epicenter was about 40ish miles southeast of San Antonio. Now that NEVER happens! Of course, it was a baby. I didn't feel it myself (happened very early in the morning), but apparently others in and around San Antonio felt it.

Woke us up.
What really freaks me out is that KC was awake at that hour, and standing in his office.

I happend to be in the "boys room" at about 4:45 and it seemed strange that the shower doors were rattling a bit, while the picture frames and the rest of the items were just still...
It wasnt't hard or anything, but just little movement for a few seconds... then stop, then again for another few...
Originally from Mexico, I know a bit about the movements, and also when I lived in San Diego I was alone at home when a kind of big one hit... Scary!!

I grew up in SoCal - I got pretty used to sleeping through them, so it didn't even wake me. And even if it had, I probably wouldn't have blinked an eye.
Now, when the tornado sirens wail, I go running for the closet

Heck, even a bad lightning storm gets me shaking.

I'm in the Chicagoland area, and slept right through it. My girlfriend is in Champaign, though, and she woke up...felt it for about a minute or so. Not enough to do any damage there, but definitely felt the shaking...and I thought I was a light sleeper...

I didn't feel the second one, what time did it happen???
I just got back from picking my daughter up from preschool so most likely I would of been in the car.

http://www.wndu.com/there is a video clip where it shows the earthquake, it happened while they did weather report and it showed camera that is on top of building, he thought it was wind doing it
Okay, my hubby just called and I told him about the video clip and he said I am obsessed with this. Of course I am not, but this is so interesting. Plus I did get the shit scared out of me this morning so not like it is easy to forget. Okay, I need to get back to editting.

How much of a dork am I - if I admit I thought a ghost was shaking my bed? Ok, well my first thought the cat was on the bed but thought it was too heavy of a shake for him - plus he wasn't in the room. :-), I'm in SE Wisconsin right now btw. It was subtle and less then 5 seconds, at least I have an explanation now.

I had felt that one too! I was in 9th grade and oddly at the time we were watching the exorcist, I thought someone was under the bed messing with us. When there wasn't we got freaked out. I have no idea I thought of the supernatural so much. Hmm. :-)

It was cool...but I was kinda disappointed...I mean, if you're gonna wake me up at 4:37 AM for something other than, well...husband and wife stuff...it better be a real earth-moving experience...none of this sissy 5.2 stuff...

I lived in Indiana all my life until 2 years ago and only felt one earthquake when I was probably only 5. Geeze... All the fun stuff happens after I move away!
