Full Version: Angry Skies...but a Pocket Full of Sunshine

So the weatherman called for rain. The radar showed rain. That didn't matter to this bride and groom. They had a little pocketful of sunshine and they used it on Saturday. It was quite amazing to see the angry skies all around the beach in Nags Head, NC and then the skies let in a little ray of sunshine for their pictures after the ceremony. I think they called in an IOU to someone very important. Whatever it was, it worked and everyone remained dry. The ceremony on the beach was totally cool with everyone in barefeet.

Here's the original! We had done the same shot for their e-session with the same PP so I was trying to duplicate the look of the previous shot. That's why I went with that look.

Thanks for all your comments guys! BTW, The blog is back UP. whew...

Beautiful work! I LOVE the sky in these. I think I'd be glad the weather was that way, otherwise you wouldn't have that incredible sky! Can I ask how you lit these? Your exposures and lighting in these are fantastic!!!!

I agree, your exposures are awesome. For the jumping shot I really love the full color version. I just love how crisp and bright it is. I think it conveys the joyous feeling of the day well. The bride and groom must love 'em!

Well, I lit them basically ambient really. The light was just fantastic with a dark ominous sky at around noon. So the sun was peeking through at times giving the subjects a bit of punch against the dark sky. real cool. I shoot in manual mode mostly and use a light meter to get a good reading because the sky will really throw off your meter (underexposing your subject). I sometimes use a flash (with a Fong) on camera at -1 1/3 stops to just add enough to pull them out of the picture a bit and add a catch light. I am not sure if i used it on any of these shots tho. Hope that helps!
