I posted this in the web forum too...here goes. smile.gif I'm working on a blog, and posted pics on it and they look horrible. In Light Room they look normal, but on the web they look too dark and somewhat desaturated. Anybody know what might have gone wrong?

Are you saving for the web in Photoshop?

yes

thats your problem don't use save for web. simply "save as..." jpegs at quality 8 or so. save for web does horrible things to color. also, make sure your images are sRGB color profile... not Adobe RGB or something else funky.

Thank you so much! I will try it out. I do use sRGB for my color profile, I did get that much right!

But "Save for web" has the added benefit of stripping away all metadata, which some people feel is important when posting images on the web.

Why is stripping the metadata important for web images?

Some photographers don't like the camera type, lens, focal length, etc. information being visible because they want to keep their "recipe" private. Also, some photographers put their camera's serial number into the metadata in order to know after a shoot which camera shot which images.

It's mostly about privacy of information.

Heres what I do and it works great!
Edit image at full size in its original RGB format.
Resize to 715 pixels wide (you'll resize to whatever width your blog column is)
Sharpen Kubota Magic Sharp
Put Logo on image
Flatten image
Change mode to CMYK
Save for Web
Upload to Photobucket
New post in blogger, add the hyperlinks to the pics.
done!

Go check out my blog, they are sharp and contrasty! Just like I see them in lightroom and photoshop.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the tips! I gotta get those Kubota actions! They look awesome, and the way people talk about 'em, they must be worth having. I've been saving up...almost there! Question: I know CMYK is for print...Why CMYK vs RGB for web? Why do you upload to photobucket? Is that so you won't go over your quota in blogger, or just to have them somewhere else on the web? Just curious. smile.gif (can you tell I'm n-e-w new?!)

Love your blog and work! And congrats on getting engaged! Your ring is GORGEOUS! biggrin.gif

That they are! Who knew CMYK worked that well for web!

Jacque, I'd love to talk to you about how your blog is set up. Mine is jacked up right now and I need to set a new theme - none of the defaults look that good - would you mind giving me a few tips to get my blog to display nice large images on a clean layout similar to yours?

Thanks a bunch :-)
