I'm actually surprised they didn't release it sooner. The 5D has been out for a long time.
I was the first guy on my block to get one (I had told myself as soon as they come out with a full frame camera in that form factor, I would buy it instantly).
I will buy the 5D MKII instantly when it comes out as well. 5D has been the best camera ever.

ain't that the truth.
I don't get the whole 12800 iso thing...
Also, I don't believe that the camera would go for that low..$3500? no way.
With all the features that they (whoever 'they' is) are touting, this camera would be more like $4999
I guess time will tell on this one...

I remember a few months before the 40D came out, that website and several others released the specs for it, etc. That turned out true. Hopefully the same thing will happen.
It would be crazy to see it anymore than $3500 if thats true (however, those are some amazing specs). I can't remember what the price was on the 5D when it came out, but the price spread between the 40D @ $1139.00 and the 5D Mark II @ $5000 that would definitely keep the people who were trying to decide between a 40D or 5D in the past to stick with the 40D now (or get the original 5D which is my plan). It also seems like the new upgrades from camera to camera are quite significant these days. The price however hasn't been twice as much as the older version.
Sorry for rambling. I hope that it does come out in June however @ the $3500 price. Ill upgrade to the 5D from my 30D, finish up my bookings this year, and buy that bad boy when Christmas rolls around.

I asked a friend at an agency this question ... he asked his contact at Canon, who said it was just a rumor.
I'm hoping it's true, but I don't believe it is.

ok, here's a dumb thing i did. i put my 28mm lens on my rebel g, and remembering what it's like to have a wide lens makes me really want a couple of 5d's. as soon as the business gets really rolling a 5d or its successor will be mine!

I'll stick with my 1Ds Mark II thank you very much. You can get them for about $4k now with low actuations...
But cool, and hopefully canon will learn from their mistakes with the mark III

Honestly, I don't buy it...
Too many of those features are better than the 1DsMarkIII - I don't think Canon would release a $3500 camera that would compete so closely with their $8000 camera...
Sure, it has smaller megapixels and less AF points - but still... mighty close to the 1DsMarkIII for me to believe that Canon would release it.
If they do release it, I am buying one :-D But I am not holding my breath...

If it does come out like so many are talking about...I will definitely be on the pre-order list the day its launched! I want to believe its true but I have seen other rumors of lessor specs at $1899 so its hard to say.
Again, if Canon wants to make a mint, release the above with those specs at under $3500 and they will out-sell the new Nikons!

I hope something is announced soon. I have been holding out buying another body. I have came close to buying the 5D in the last week, but have decided to wait a little longer. I know as soon as would buy a 5D the new version would be out.
The specs are impressive. Everyone had there doubts about the original 5D when the rumors were flying before it was announced. If there is a new version it will most likely be less expensive than any 1D series camera.

What mistakes?
(don't answer that, we just don't agree about what constitutes 'good' controls...)

I'm in your boat Phil, I'm looking to get a 5D for the upcoming season. Maybe a new model will make the current one drop in price! Ah, wishful thinking!

hehe bill, it has nothing to do with the controls actually (although it's my personal preference to not use a mark III due to canon throwing out the well-known EOS-1 interface)
i think canon just got off to a really weak start with the 1D Mark III series. they had that whole focus issue which was supposedly caused by the pentamirror (i think thats what its called) but i've heard of some instances where even the physical repair of the camera did not entirely eliminate the problems. heat build up was/continues to be a major factor in the mark III, and oddly enough they never had issues like this with any of their previous models.
anyhow, either way im sure whatever they come out with will be great. i just wont be hopping on the new tech. bandwagon anytime soon.... again, just personal preference. kind of like how some people shoot nikon

No mirror/heat/focus trouble here. Maybe I'll be singing a different tune after the summer. My feeling on the issue is that they were working so hard to make the focus work well in low light that they inadvertently sacrificed bright daylight, high heat, fast moving performance. And low light is really important to me, so I'm happy about that.
And it does outfocus any other Canon in low light, it's not perfect, I've missed a couple shots for lack of proper focus, but not nearly as many as I did with the MkIIn. It was worthless in anything but bright light, so much so that I thought it was broken, but when I compared it to my buddy's it was identical. So I sold it. ;-)
I only hope the new 5D has focus as good.... and two card slots and weather seals. Ya ~ that's all I want. ;-)
