I'm experimenting more with my 580EX flash on my 5D.

According to page 11 of the user's manual, the flash LCD should display the effective range in meters or feet. I have the distance scale, but it never displays an effective range.

Also, on page 11, next to Zoom on the LCD, it shows "Zoom 50mm". On my LCD, it just reads "Zoom --mm"

I tried with both the 24-70L and 50mm 1.4

Wireless Selector is off.

Any ideas?

1) Make sure you are in E-TTL mode. Custom Function 3 set to 0.
In the TTL mode, the flash will adjust, but will not give you distance readings.

If you are in E-TTL-try Pressing the zoom button so the indicator blinks, the rotate the dial so the M is no longer there and the small rectangle shows up in the upper right corner (Auto Zoom, the M zoom you have to adjust for the different FL, works well for prime lenses, not so much for zooms), then press the zoom button again.
