Anything I need to know when it gets here?

I'm still up in the air with Adobe. I did talk to one person the other day who finally said I could get the Mac version without a problem. I hope I get the same person when it gets here and I call back. If not I'm switching to LR. (I'd like to get it sometime in the future anyway.)

I'm sure I have to get a new driver for my Wacom tablet.

I'm going to check out open office.

Anything else?

You may be jumping ship, but into the lifeboat! clap.gif

Sorry, that's the first thing that came to mind. tongue.gif

Gratz! I know you here it all the time, but you'll be sooooo happy with it smile.gif

Adobe should go through fine-- and LR is not really a replacement for PS-- it does a LOT and is very powerful, but you still need PS for the more advanced editing... for example, I don't like LR's Sharpen function at *all*

OpenOffice is cool, although I've felt it runs a bit slow on my Macs... you should install the trial of iWorks. It's only like $70 and I'm loving it--- which I didn't think I'd be able to switch well from Office but it's very smooth and has amazing templates.

Enjoy!

I'm excited! I can't wait for it to get here.

I know LR doesn't replace PS, but if they give me trouble it will have to do for now.

Does anyone know if my HP wireless keyboard will work with it? I have carpal tunnel, so when I'm at home I'm all ergonomic and stuff.

Congratulations! Let me share my recent experience with you.
My Acer lappy died two weeks outside warranty and AMEX just reimbursed me the original cost. LOVE AMEX. But the point is, I just bought a 13" MacBook 2.4G to replace it. With BookCamp (and the similar 3rd party apps) I can run windows programs in windows, but still have a Mac and run stuff on the Mac side.
So, one does not have to replace all the software they already own on the windows side. Is it as good as running it from within the Mac side....probably not as stable. But some programs have reduced functionality in Mac anyway, like QuickBooks.
So, welcome to Mac and you can have the best of both worlds!

Keep in mind, not everything can be easily upgraded to the Mac side. I am a Nikon shooter (Hey! Nobody is perfect...) and I used Camera Control Pro to shoot tethered sometimes on an arial rig I built. Well, the old version of CCP is not compatible with the current Mac OS X. Only the New CCP program is. And the upgrade cost is $80. I think I only paid $80 for the program a year ago. Nikon did not want to hear it. Too bad, they said.

That is a shame....I have spent how many thousands of dollars on Nikon brand bodies, flashes, lenses, batteries, etc....and they want to nickle and dime for a program to use the equipment. It could almost make me want to switch to Canon just for spite.

Once again, welcome to Mac.

It's a wonderful quality to be able to profess your weaknesses.

Ok, I'm just joking again. Sorry. One of those kind of days!

well in terms of adobe, you don't need to get a hold of the same person. simply call them and tell them you need a cross platform upgrade from windows to mac. they will direct you to a letter of software destruction online which you will print, sign and fax to them. once they process your agreement to destroy your PC version, they will send you a full mac version either for free or for the cost of shipping - i can't remember.

other than that, you should seriously look into lightroom anyway. its a wonderful program that's transformed my workflow and saved me TONS of time. i use it in conjunction with photoshop which is really nice, but i hardly use PS anymore with LR.

What machine did you end up getting?

I just like my camera company to concentrate on cameras, not copiers and printers, motors and medical equipment.

8-)

Fact is they are both really good. I would tell someone just starting out to flip a coin and choose. Either one has compromises overshadowed buy utility and enginuity.
That and they both make the same sound when you drop them. Chaching!

I got the Macbook Pro, 2.5GHz with the 15 in. screen.

I think I'm going to get LR sooner than I thought. I saw a demonstration the other night and was wowed by it. I'd played around with the free trial and I guess I didn't even scratch the surface.

Tell me how you like your Macbook Pro, I'm thinking of buying the same model. I'm on a Mac Pro right now, but on a Gateway laptop until I can drop 2G's for a slick slideshow screen. That's all I use my Gateway for.

I am currently running a MacBook Pro 2.2GHz w/2GB Ram, I was running Aperture 2.0, but I just tested Lightroom 1.4.1, and it looks like I may stay with Lightroom. I am going to jump up to 4GB ram next week, It seems to run slow when I import a large shoot.
Other than that, the MacBook Pro is a great laptop.
