Jen and I are in the market to upgrade our system and network at home. Right now our wireless network is a basic Netgear Wireless G router and unfortunately when I bought our new PC from a friend he used Linksys so I have a Linksys adapter to that computer but I like Netgear. Anyone know of anything thats worth the money or to just change to a whole new Network?

Also we want to incorporate a Raid system at home instead of just having 2 External drives to back up to. As our business seems to be going good we are just wanting to simplify and streamline.

If anyone could help with suggestions we would be appreciative.

Hi Stewart,

Here's what I am looking to purchase for myself for a RAID system (although thechnically I don't think that this is a true RAID) It's called Drobo and you can find it here: http://drobo.com/
I'm and IT guy during the day and the last thing that I want to do at night is more IT work, kind of like asking the postman to go for a walk at night. This Drobo is really easy to setup, expandable and you can add drives when you get the money or find a good deal. I don't have one yet, but looking to get one this summer. Someone here had a coupon for $100 off before the holidays, I think that if I would see another coupn like this, I would get it right away!

As far as for network hardware, I also like Netgear, I have had zero issues with Netgear and had to retun Linksys equipment more than once, thier technical service was lousy and rude. No more Lynksys for me.

Hey Stewart,

Good topic! I just bought this guy which I really like so far. I have a gigabit router that I connect it to so any computer can get to it. It has a USB input for networked printing. The best part is that for networkable storage solutions, I can put drives of my choice in it and I'm a Seagate fan. Now my assistant can do album designs, contact resource management, etc. from the same set of information I'm working with. Let us know what you end up doing!

Going RAID is not a good way to "streamline". In fact you'll be upping the complexity of your setup to a degree that is totally unnecessary (IMO).

Switching routers is unlikely to make any difference either.

Drobo isn't a bad idea but I recommend something like the Sonnet Fusion 500P with some drives from NewEgg.

The Netgear and the Linksys stuff should work together just fine. What is your goal of redoing the newtork?
