Ok...there was a great thread I had bookmarked previously on OSP that talked all about card readers and which ones were the fastest. It also talked about daisy chaining some together or using multiple card readers on one computer.

Anyway....I need to tell a few people what gifts I want for christmas. One of those is def. a faster card reader. Can someone here please help me out with some good suggestions and where might be the best place to purchase it? biggrin.gif

Thanks biggrin.gif

If you are going to upgrade to the Extreme IV cards from Sandisk then this card and combo reader looks great.

I don't have my readers in front of me but I have two pretty fast ones, I'll look them up tomorrow if somebody doesn't beat me to a suggestion smile.gif

Lexar has their stackable ones. We've had great success with them. I love that there are two Firewire ports so that you can chain them together, and still have a port for a hard drive or something.

Couple things...

1) http://www.sandisk.com/Products/Item(1151)...aderWriter.aspx This is the reader. smile.gif I had posted one and my review on it so that MAY be the post you are thinking of? I LOVE it - I can download a gig in 80 seconds.

2) If you use multiple readers, make sure either a) they're designed for it or b) you use multiple USB ports. Using two readers on one port WILL cause you download trouble. The data can't fit through the hole. Sure, it pushes, but you will lose data. I can find the website on this if you'd like, but basically the answer is - they make stacked readers and either use those or just use two of the above in two different ports. They'll download faster than you can change them! smile.gif

I believe this is only the case with USB readers. Firewire was designed to be daisy-chained so you shouldn't have an issue with Firewire. But, now that I think about it, the only Firewire card reader that you're able to daisy-chain (has two FW ports) is designed for it. But you could do it with a FW router and several (one-port) FW card readers without any issues.

I remember reading the USB version of the daisy-chainable card readers slowed down quite a bit. i.e. if a card took 1 minute to copy, two readers with two cards took 2 minutes... which to me is rather pointless.

But I heard the firewire versions don't have that problem. So I'd go with that one.
