Full Version: Switched to Canon...need help?

So, I switched back to Canon from Nikon and I am looking for a backup body for my 5D that I just bought from BH. I used to own a 40D with grip that I sold when I got into Nikon and it was a great camera.

I am just wondering, since it will only be a backup and for sports shooting of my cousins football games, is the 40D worth the extra $430? This price is based off of a new 40D vs a refurbed 30D.

Thanks in advance!

The 30D will do the job and you can put the $430 saved toward the strobe your sig says you need.

I went with a refurb 20D from BH for my backup to my 30D and got the extended warranty on it. I say, if you go with a refurb, get the extended warranty.

You'll get more use out of the strobe you buy with the money saved. The 30D's a solid camera.

if it was just a backup, I would say the 30D would be fine, but for sports, the 40D will be better, faster AF larger buffer, etc. I have a 5D, 40D, and 30D and shoot a lot of sports...always with the 40D. I have found sRAW handy for sports shooting as well since most of the sports photos I shoot are going straight to the web or will not be printed larger then 4x6.

just my opinion
