avatar police ...um, so is it also the same pic you use as your profile? You probably won't respond since your post is from Dec 06.

it will show up on your profile but there is another field specifically for the profile. You have to upload the pic as the avatar pic to have it show up on posts. See my profile, there is the avatar pic AND an additional one too
