Full Version: OT... Someone stole my money....

So, I went to Vons today to get some ice cream for my husband's mentor group, and my daughter had to use the restroom. I left my purse in there accidentally, but 3 minutes later I realized what I had done, and ran back to get it. It had already been taken up to customer service, and as I go to check out, I discover that someone had taken all of my cash. It wasn't our entire grocery allotment, but it was about half!

We only pay with cash, so I told them I couldn't pay for the ice cream, and the woman checker just stood there while I was crying my eyes out.. I just took my kids and walked out, but I was sobbing because I was just floored that some woman (it was a woman's bathroom) would do that. What shocked me even more was that as I walked from the checkout to my car, with 2 young kiddos, crying the entire time, not one person asked if I was alright. The utter lack of compassion just saddened me deeply.

So... if you see someone crying... even if it makes you uncomfortable... ask if they are ok!!

I'm so sorry. Thank you for reminding us all that compassion doesn't have to be a work of congress, sometimes you can make a difference in one families life by just asking how the day is going......

i get more joy out of returning something to someone, than keeping it. what is up with these fools?

Sorry you had a bad day! That is so disheartening to know that people won't spare a moment to ask if someone is ok, or for that matter steal someone's grocery money!!! So sorry that happened to you!
SarahT

Yea, I know, right?

This same thing happened at a grocery store a few years ago with my wife. My wife left her pocket book at the checkout, went outside and put the groceries away, then realized she left it inside. She went back into get it and the cashier said he another lady said it was hers! What woman would think that purse was hers? Come on! She stole it. The store was really uncooporative about it, but did tell us she paid with a card! LOL! As the police dept started investigating it the woman finally realized the purse wasn't hers and called my wife. About a week later this happened! I ended up going to meet that woman to get the purse. Everything was there. Unfortunately my wife had already had to get a new drivers license and such though.

I'm sorry this happened to you sad.gif

That's so incredibly lame. I used to work at Vons (pre-strike) and let me tell you...people are a lot less happy to work there than before the strike. It's really sad. Not that it's any excuse at all.

So sorry that happened to you. sad.gif

Thanks again everyone... I was just in shock last night!

My husband was unemployed over half of last year, so we are in survival mode. It was just a blow.

My husband wasn't as upset as I was, and he said that someone desperate enough to take the money must have needed it. I would have loved to been able to give it to them though. sad.gif We actually prayed for them last night. Everything looks better in the morning, right. smile.gif

Thanks for letting me vent!

Can I just say that some wonderful person sent me money via Paypal.... And please, please, please know that was not my intention for posting... I just wanted a kind ear. smile.gif

I haven't been given permission to say who it was, but I wanted to give a big thank you to that said person in case they don't get my email. smile.gif
It made me cry for a different reason. And I will say it again, God is faithful, no matter what our circumstances. What a blessing. wub.gif

THANKS!!!

I just had my car window smashed and someone stole my GPS, this is the second time someone has broken in to my car within a year and I live in a really good neighborhood. I had to pay a few hundred to get my window replaced plus a new GPS.

Im such a naive, trusting person when i comes to this stuff. I can't believe a woman took your money right under your nose.

Reminds me of what I read on my Starbucks cup the other day "There is a special place in hell for women who don't help other women" - cantrememberwhosaidit smile.gif

Sarah, sorry this happened, and that was awesome you got some paypal love.

I have a positive theft story. I was hugely pregnant with my second child, recently single and was getting my hair cut (while my first child screamed in the background with a friend.) some guy came in and stole my wallet from the barber shop, while my friend was distracted. I couldn't pay for my haircut, and was really stressed out about having to replace all my cards (luckily I only had about $20 in my wallet.)

A couple hours later, I got a call from my soon to be ex, asking if I'd lost my wallet. Some guy had found it and drove to my (old) apartment to drop it off for me. Some people have really big hearts.

you cant have a GPS out in the open "WINDOW MOUNTED" its just not safe, and if u remove the GPS, the mount is still there, so they know its in the vehicle. Then if you move the whole thing, you have a circle mark from the GPS mount so again they know its there.

Minus the computer, this is my truck.

I do have a GPS in place the laptop, people dont mess with my truck, looks like a Fed.

But I am very sorry it even happened to you in the first place.

See, not your fault, but the circle mark as I stated is a clear give a-away.

My own story about losing a wallet and kind hearted people!

The day my husband (then fiance) and I were leaving for our wedding in Pennsylvania (we were living in New York at the time), we had the car all packed, but I couldn't find my wallet. We searched the entire apartment, called work in case I left it there but no luck. So, instead of leaving bright and early, we searched up and down, and when we finally realized that it was gone, drove to the bank to take out all the cash we had before closing the account, called all the credit card companies to cancel the accounts, plus trying to figure out how we were going to finish paying for certain things for the wedding, because I had planned to put them on credit card. My husband had to do all the driving, because I didn't even have a driver's license!

Anyway, after we got back from our honeymoon, I had a package in the mail. Some total sweetheart in Midtown Manhattan had found my wallet and dropped it into the mailbox. The post office took out $1.83 from the wallet to cover the postage, and I received my wallet with every credit card, with my drivers license, with all my cash, completely in tact.

Every time I go to Midtown Manhattan and think how rude some of the people are because they push and shove, are always in a hurry, etc. I always remind myself of the one completely honest individual who restored my trust.
