Check this out! smile.gif

We've been using this flash download (you don't even need flash!!!) for our WestmontSports.com site. It's super easy and it's free so get it! Here's a link to one of our pages and then there's a link to the download on the bottom right!

See our page!

Enjoy!
Chris Humphreys

So speaking of "things to get" you gonna tell us how you got your picture to keep changing? Forrest is on his honeymoon so I know it wasn't him....
davidjay
Flash baby! I'm a nerd...but I thought it was pretty cool!

wink.gif

...you can even click on it!
Marcia
David,

That flash gallery is awesome! I didn't see system requirements, any idea if it is Mac compatible?
davidjay
Yup! smile.gif It's everything compatible because all you have to do is load photos into a folder and type some words in a text file and you're ready to rock!
Kurt
I realize that I am digging up an old post. I apologize profusely.

DJ, have you tried or do you know if it is possible to put the flash gallery into a flash movie?

I am putting together a flash site and can't for the life of me figure out how to integrate it into a flash movie. I don't seem to have any trouble making it work in an html file.

Thanks
davidjay
It is possible but you'll need to buy the code...

My site is a little tricky because there are two dynamic elements to deal with, but this Simpleviewer gallery is what is currently on our site so I know it is possible once you've bought the code...otherwise you gotta stick with the HTML page.

Kurt
Thanks for the info DJ.

This thing is awesome! Thank you for posting it! I purchased the source code Friday (haven't received it yet though) and am very excited to integrate this into our site.

One question: Have you found that a certain pixel dimension for the images and thumbnails produces the best result? I have tried a few combinations but either have some jaggies or notice that the images are clipped a little.
Kurt
Peter,

I am planning to purchase the source code in the next couple of weeks. Let me know who the process of integrating it into your site goes.

I am in the midst of building my first site. I am teaching myself flash, so I trying not to get in over my head.

Thanks,

Kurt

The way I made my images was with PS's image gallery function...super easy to just grab the "images" folder and the "thumbs" folder out of what PS created and have them work with SimpleViewer!

Kurt: So far so good. I think I figured out the correct sizes to make the images and the thumbnails for the best quality, and seem to have eliminated the clipping as well. I haven't figured out the logic in ordering the images from start to finish, but think you can simply hand-edit the XML file to put them in the correct order (it appears that they in reverse order by file name, but one of my tests had an image in the weirdest spot!).

I haven't received the email with the source code yet, though I figure a few more days is reasonable to wait. If you want to check the test page out it is up and running:

Test Page

I was also trying to write some code to push people to an HTML gallery if they don't have flash enabled, and I think that is working well too.

If you need any help with non-Flash stuff, give me a holler -- I'm happy to help out. Unfortunately, I am little to no help with Flash!

Hey David,

Let me know if you ever figure out how to have separate galleries using this script...i use it on my website but have to have different pages load for separate galleries...it's driving me crazy!!
davidjay
I've actually stopped using click through galleries on my website and moved to what I think is a much better way to present images - slideshows! smile.gif

Hey,

I found a program called SlideshowPro which is a $20 Flash add-in type thing. It plays as a slideshow which you can set to music. You can have multiple galleries, each with their own song. You can also pause the slideshow and click around using thumbnails if you prefer. Almost EVERY thing you see is customizable (button colors, text, backgrounds, etc.) are totally customizable and it doesn't force you to use it's logo anywhere. In fact it....sound too good to be true. But go to SlideshowPro and see what you think.

Kevin

That is a good cliean gallery type program and one of the bummers about it as Todd pointed out is that you have to drop $400 on flash and it does display images but if I remember correctly it's more of a gallery than a slideshow.

Here's the old thread on it - click here

It is definitely more of a gallery than a slideshow which is a bummer. I made one of the slideshows like yours with Adobe Premier Pro...takes FOREVER! wacko.gif But the result is unbeatable. Since I needed a quick way to get a website up, I went with SlideShowPro, and although it's a gallery, at least the viewer doesn't have to click every time they want to see a new pic.

Do you realize how sweet it would be if ShowIT worked inside Flash? wink.gif I think it would be the first of its kind.

I think version 1.1 will. smile.gif Todd was at a Flash conference and the programmers of flash didn't even know about the problem of embedding Flash inside of Flash! How crazy is that! ...but they found a solution and it's being incorporated into Showit Web.

Amen!

Can't wait for showit web version 3 or something that will provide this capability to use in a much easier format!

davidjay
Ya probably won't have to wait till version 3 wink.gif wink.gif wink.gif

I downloaded and paid for SlideshowPro about 10 days before I found ShowIT mentioned here.

I then immediately bought ShowIT and haven't even activated SlideshowPro. ShowIT is SOOOO much easier to integrate, from my experience.
davidjay
Sweet! smile.gif I'm glad it's making things easy for ya! Look for a free upgrade to V 1.1 coming soon.

Awesome site...but I'm confused, where's the download? Looks like it could be a great supplement to Showit Web which I already have.

Am I missing something?

Yeah, SimpleViewer is definitely a cool little piece of software. I've been using it to make Flash proof CD's. I use a free software that makes the CD an autorun CD: http://www.ezau.com/latest/articles/autorun.shtml. Just stick it on the same CD as your SimpleViewer files. The CD takes a few minutes to load up (the gallery will play real slow at first), but after a few minutes, the gallery runs fast.
Chris Uglanica
Thanks for the autorun link. I'll be utilizing that in the future. smile.gif

Is it up anymore? I keep getting an error message.

Wow. Talk about reviving an oldie! The software I belive that they are referring to is Simple Viewer. It's a pretty cool program. Definately check it out!

Nope. Look at the date, it's from 2005. I'm really quite certian that it's talking about simpleviewer. Maybe a nudge to DJ could solve this right quick?
