Full Version: exposure adjustment

I've been using DPP for the last few years and am slowly transitioning my workflow to Lightroom and am really loving it. However, one part of it that really bothers me is the exposure adjustment in LR.

Is it me, or does it seem like the images get all contrasty when you increase the exposure ?

+1 stop in DPP is very different than +1 stop in LR...

Does anyone else feel this way ?

Hmm... I never used DPP. I don't seem to have trouble in LR, but I try not to push it that far either. Usually my adjustments that I make are about 1/3 or 1/2 stop.

Do you shoot RAW or JPEG? Have you tried lowering the shadows or contrast when you have to +1 stop?

Hmm... if lightroom is making things contrasty then I guess I like it that way. I know lightroom can handle JPEGs, but the controls feel very different to me than when I'm processing RAW (I've only done 2 or 3 JPEGS that I shot by accident). Are you shooting RAW?

I do shoot RAW...and for the most part, I don't push it past 1 stop...depending on what i'm looking to do. but going past 1 stop gets really oooogly.

I do play around with the brightness/contrast sliders and it's generally set at 50/25 as a default. But when I use auto-tones, that changes obviously, and now I'm starting to think that that is the problem.

When I play around with DPP, the exposure adjustment essentially acts like a true exposure compensation and brightens the image.

Does anyone use the auto-tone feature ? I guess I'm looking for a time saver like the brilliant presets like DJ has.
