Hey everyone! I have a Canon 30D with a bg-e2 battery grip. I went to Belize last week on a mission trip and 4 or 5 times it gave me an error 99 and it said something about switching the power on and off. I did it a couple of times and it worked. The other times I had to remove my grip and put it back in. What is going on with it?

Thanks in advance.

Error 99 is usually a lens issue. Check this out.

Thanks Sara! It is working fine now, so hopefully it will stay that way. Just didn't want it happening during a wedding. I have a backup, but I would hate to miss a moment when switching cameras or a lens. I was going to wait and get a 5D, but I think Ill go ahead and get a 40D just in case. wink.gif

40D is a nice Camera. I would hold on a 5D purchase if it were me. 5D Mk II should be out soon.

As for error 99 I dealt with that to. It's genarally related to a communication error with the lens like Sarah said. Simetime Off/On will fix, but I had a Tokina I had to send in once because of it.

The old Error 99! I am a Canon shooter and this is one of my pet peeves....the Error 99. It actually is any error that the other error #'s do not cover. It is most commonly a lens/body communication issue. But, it can be battery/battery grip or memory card related. Sometimes, the lens issue is simply one of the contacts not being made between body and lens. You can very carefully clean the contacts on the lens with a pencil eraser. Make sure you clean all of the rubber pieces off of the lens before attaching it to the body! Often times this will cure the problem.

I actually just talked to my Canon sales rep about this error and it is the error which could mean a lot of different things and should be looked at.

It often has to do with the shutter, and possibility needs replaced. Happened to another photographer I know with his 30d and it needed replaced. Although it happened to another photog. I know and when he replaced the CF card it was ok. It can be caused my non canon lenses as well..

Could be multiple things but you may want to have it looked at?

Good luck.
