Full Version: Wallets-To Cut or Not to Cut

I was so excited when I first saw a thread regarding the lack of cuts for wallets on the Pictage forums (and the fact that it was 6 pages long!) thinking that surely somewhere in the 6 pages, Pictage heard it's customers and provided the service that so may other vendors offer. But yet, there I was, at the end of the thread, with nothing done in over two years since the thread started.

When I first signed up with Pictage, I was thrilled to be able to have clients order prints directly, and receive a nicely packaged black box with black tissue paper, all containing the high quality prints they ordered. I was equally shocked to find that one order containing wallets (that cost us more to have included in our packages) that were uncut. There they sat, like the 5x7's that they are. How does Pictage explain, that even though this is just an image, 4-up on a 5x7, it costs us, the photographers, more to have made than a 5x7 when our clients still need to do the work of cutting?

What's the final word Pictage? Are you or are you not going to at least offer the option of trimming to our clients...even if it comes at yet another additional fee? We need to know as this may have to be yet another product that we'll need to remove and handle ourselves (which is continuously defeating the whole point of having Pictage).

We don't order very many wallets, but I can see this being an issue with us as far as time is concerned and an inconvenience for the client.

It is not a deal breaker in itself, but we're finding multiple issues with Pictage that are adding up quickly that may be deal breakers in the long run.

We are looking forward to WPPI to meet with vendors and check out product so that we can make an informed decision on the necessity of keeping Pictage or not.

I don't think they have any plans to do it even though people obviously want it - unless there are new plans that I am not aware of. That is one of my beefs with Pictage - they just don't offer high end products. Not that wallets are necessarily high end, but if you are going to offer them - at least make them look professional. I wish they would offer nice wallets, canvas wraps, fine art prints, mounted prints. It really is frustrating to have to fulfill so many orders myself since outsourcing is what Pictage is all about. It wasn't really a problem in the past, but my client base is much more high end than it used to be and I'm finding that Pictage is really only a good solution for me when it comes to random wedding guests ordering prints.

Hi guys -

Apologies for not responding sooner. I didn't realize this question had been posted over here as well.

We are actively evaluating cutting wallets and should have an answer for you by the end of next week at the latest. I'll update this thread once our decision is made firm.

Looking forward to your update Ian. Thanks for chiming in.

WHCC is more than happy to provide that service at no extra charge. You can actually select to NOT have them cut...

Plus you can get them in 3 days...(1 day in production and 2-day FREE shipping...plus if you are lucky a tootsie roll pop in the box!)

Huh?? blink.gif

Pictage is evaluating??? Huh? blink.gif That means it won't be done, because they are evaluating... evaluating if they need to increase their MONTHLY fee to justify a die-cutter.

In all fairness, since Pictage has decided to outsource a lot of work, maybe they can overnight all their wallet prints to WHCC and have them die-cut and shipped back to Pictage then shipped to their clients.

LOL so true. for what their users pay per month, they could easily do that. but then again, why not just order your stuff from WHCC to begin with and not have to deal with pictage in the first place smashpc.gif

Hit and run. Anyone else see it?

Interestingly, when we signed up for Pictage, we were told that they had been evaluating die-cutting wallets and that a decision had been made to do so. It would start the following month.

I've been following this thread and just noticed that some posts are now missing. What gives?

I realize that anytime the name Pictage is mentioned in a thread, the ole' love/hate comments soon follow. All I want is some solid info. Ian thankfully gave some. Adam gave some more (thanks for chiming in dude).

Now I'm waiting for the official word.

Um, Adam didn't really give you any solid info. He was actually referring to when we signed up with Pictage 4 years ago, they were "looking into it" then and had said "it will be coming soon." It hasn't happened in 4 years since then.

Hi everyone -

Thank you for your patience.

After reviewing internally we agree with your recommendation. We will be die cutting wallets.

We're still working out the timing...expect an email announcement once the details are hammered out.

I haven't seen anything, but I find it amusing that details need to be hammered out. Details? Buy a few wallet dies and start using them. Pretty simple if you ask me. It's really taking two months to figure that out?
IanSiegel
Hi guys --

Pictage will begin die cutting wallets in three weeks. (Early June.)

The decision to die cut wallets came in the midst of an already packed schedule which is why unfortunately it took us this long to deploy. The good news is you can expect to see a rapid series of announcements from us about everything from print quality, to new products, to better uploading tools, and consumer website improvements all in the next five weeks.

seriously. and uh, don't they charge their users enough to have paid for die cutters 5 times over in these 2 months? hmm... i think i'll stick with WHCC, their die cutting is the bomb, and they don't jerk their customers around when it comes to offering standard options.... i don't see why pictage didn't offer die cutting a long time ago, but it's their loss.
