I started looking for a good printer that can produce high quality images on printable DVDs or CDs.
I used my friend's Epson R800 for a while (which produced realy nice prints), but I had to return it.
What is your favorite printer?

I absolutely love my Epson R200.. however, it's getting a bit old and tired. I'd highly reccomend another epson based on my experience with my 200..

I just masterd some DVD's tonight, and the clients were thrilled to see their image printed on their CD's. It personalized it a bit..

I don't do a lot of photo printing on it but I have the new Epson RX680 and with the watershield glossy cd/dvd's from Taiyo Yuden, the printing on them looks awesome! High gloss, no running, fill disc printing. I highly recommend these discs if you do your own printing to discs. The few prints I've made on it were really nice as well...but not saleable I would say..but then I didn't buy it to make saleable prints.

That's what I am using. Picked it up for 40 dollars and haven't had a problem with it yet. I just do my logo in black and white and the clients name etc to cut down on the amount of ink it uses though.

We just picked up an Epson R280 for this purpose. It is very inexpensive and does a good job. The only knock on it is that the design program is pretty generic. However, it printed pretty nicely. I think if you look around(staples, compUSA,etc.) you can probably find one for around $100.

best wishes

Thanks for sharing. I think I'll pick something up from the Epson family.
I've just found this printer and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it. Is it worth the price???

Sticky,

Just set yourself up a template in Photoshop and then import the image as a background into their program. That's what I have been doing.

I have the Epson R300, the CD print program it comes with lets you put any picture and text any way you want. It is slow and sometimes misloads, it can take 20 min from desgint to print and reload but it looks nice. The only issue is the CD's are not gold archival quality, so that is the dilemma, nice looking printed discs or archival and a sharpie??

I recently bought an Epson RX595 AIO recently. Works great for CD/DVD printing.

I like you new blog look. I gotta spend a day sometime soon and finally get around to making mine a bit easier on the eyes.

I love my Epson printer. Not sure what model it is though, but that + a template in Photoshop make my CDs fantastic looking, and clients are thrilled with them!

Do the cd templates vary from printer to printer? If so, does anyone with the Epson r280 have a PS template they'd like to share? biggrin.gif My 280 just arrived the other day but has yet to leave the box.

Yes, it's absolutely worth the money. I have an Epson R340, which prints on CDs/DVDs, but it's fidgety & spastic half the time so I finally got the discpainter and I LOVE it.smile.gif
To me it's worth the money because I have one printer that is just for discs, and uses ink for that specific purpose, and the epson for my regular printing, so I don't have to buy ink refills as often.smile.gif

I use an Epson R200 at home and R800 at work for my cds and love them. And I print on the silver dvds (instead of the white dvds), and it looks fantastic. Clients love them.

We use Surething Labeler.. It has direct support for the epson printers..

I found that using photoshop to be a pita.. With surething, I have my templates setup, and all I do is edit two lines of text, and drop in a pic from the event that's going on CD, and print. No more alignment problems etc.. I love it, my clients love it.. and my wallet loves it. smile.gif

I looked at the print quality of the dymo discpainter at the WPPI tradeshow and though the print unit is small and the way it prints looks cool, I wouldn't recommend the current model. It's a bit pricey, but the real reason is that the print quality looks like a 5yr old inkject. Very poor quality and lots of banding. The print quality coming out of the low end Epson are much, much better. You can usually find a brand new Epson R280 on craigslist for about $50 since Epson is currently giving these printers away with a new camera purchase.

i just bought a 100 stack of these dvd's and printed them using my el cheapo pixma printer and my oh my! i just cannot believe the finish on these!

i was about to spend unncessary money on another cd/dvd printer and i am glad i didnt, i like these discs, the stack of 100 cost me $100 bucks, but well worth it.

the gloss on these discs look so professional, if you had told me the finished product came from a regular tiny desk inkjet printer, i never would have believed it!

OK I have 2 epsons and I bought one of those DYMO disc printers, that is the biggest piece of ....

The best thing are the epsons, we also just got some beautiful glossy DVDs.
Best brands: Taiyo Yuden
Best place to buy the ink and the discs: supermediastore.com

I used to use an Epson printer for printing on DVDs a couple of years ago. But...then I started having DVDs printed with my logo/design on there. And they look so much more professional to me. My clients/vendors always comment on them. I have DVD sleeves printed as well. It is really pretty inexpensive - and a lot easier too!
