Full Version: RAW & JPEG pics in a folder
OpenSourcePhoto > Digital Photography > Post Processing > Lightroom

This is something I never thought about until now, and I'm sure there's a simple explanation.

I shoot RAW and JPEG. I use RAW+small JPEG file setting during some of the wedding day, and then switch to just JPEG for other parts (I do this for a few reasons, but it doesn't matter why for the question I'm going to ask!)

My question ...
When I am importing my photos into Lightroom, I just select all the photos in a folder and upload those-- JPEG & RAW. THere are never any duplicates in Lightroom though (even though there are, in a sense, duplicate photos in the folder on my computer-- one RAW, and one JPEG of the photo).

When there is an option of going between RAW and JPEG, I'd want Lightroom to choose the RAW file. Is this what it's doing? Or is it choosing the JPEG file for default and leaving out the RAW?
(Let me know if this doesn't make sense).

There is a checkbox on the import window that says do not import suspected duplicates, so what is probably happening is LR takes the first file either jpeg or raw that it encounters and doesn't import the other file with the same name in a different format.

To import everything just uncheck that box.

You can mouse over the thumbnails in the library window and it will show you the associated file name...

You need to check the box in the LR preferences /import tab "treat JPEG files next to RAW files as Separate photos.
