Full Version: Is this my imagination?
OpenSourcePhoto > YA wanna FIGHT! > RAW vs. JPEG
Pam
Am I imagining it, or do raw files capture more light than Jpegs? It seems like they don't look as underexposed or something (at the same settings)...maybe I'm just loosing it! Heehee.
Leon
Hey Pam!

No- you're not imagining things! biggrin.gif

Raw files give you 4096 possible levels per channel.

JPEGs? A scant 256!

Next time you're in a Barnes & Noble, pick up and read the first chapter of Bruce Fraser's Real World Camera Raw for a seriously detailed description of what's going on inside that tiny little sensor. biggrin.gif

Hope that helps!
