someone else asked about getting cf cards at wppi and if they would be cheaper, so i thouht i would extend that question. we are wanting to add several new items to our arsenal of gear and i am just wondering if we should be waiting for wppi - will there be deals there? we have never been, so we are kind of clueless. thanks for your help!

There will be deals on almost everything there. Software, actions, cameras, lighting, frames, canvas. Everyone wants your buisness, and there are deals to be had. All the camera stores that will have booths there Sammys, B&H, Adorama, usually will have flyers on there deals. If there is something you are looking for, wait for WPPI. Look at the trade show map to see where they are located, because alot of the screaming deals will run out of stock. Happy Shopping.

In addition to what Ross said, make a list of what you are looking to buy. Check these prices now or sometime before you go to WPPI. You will typically find two types of promotions. There are the regular promotions and the show promotions. The show promotions are typically only available during the trade show. Wednesday afternoon they are over. There are typically a host of regular promotions that start with the show and will extend beyond the show.

B&H and Unique Photo to the best of my knowledge have historically been the only retailers that offer specials that run beyond the end of the trade show. Study the fine print on the B&H handout at the show, in recent years that have begun to have some of their specials during the show only while others are only available in the store after the show.

Also know that not all vendors have all products at the show. B&H usually has no products at the show.

Ryan is right, B&H has NO product at the show. AND don't forget that shipping is additional, so the price may seem better before shipping. I always go stright to Unique Photo. They have great pricing AND you get to walk away with your product. They've worked with me numerous times to match B&H's pricing if there is anything lower and they are honest good guys.

Definitely wait for the trade show. We've put off several purchases for our little vegas venture. biggrin.gif

I've found the best deals don't come from the "big guys."
I picked an extra couple pocket wizards at Midwest Photo's booth last year for about $115 each as they were discounting and MAC (PW's parent company) was giving an instant rebate. They had all sorts of other great deals. Hopefully this year they will have a 35L for me smile.gif

Great topic! I too am going to WPPI for the 1st time and have been wanting to purchase some new equipment (included new camera) Thanks for the info everyone! thumbsup.gif

I have been waiting to buy ANYTHING until WPPI- they do have great deals and be prepared to be suckered into some things if you're an easy target like myself! I bought something last year that I thought I was being so smart about- some software- and I haven't even opened it- it won't work with my workflow AT ALL!!! Oh well, $200 down the tubes!
Ross

Do the manufacturers have good deals on their products? ie: lexar on lexar cards?

on my wish list:

lexar UDMA cards
Epson P-3000 or P-5000
Video Lights (maybe)
Aperture 2.0
pocket wizards or radio poppers (will they have a booth?)
additional D3 battery
Light stands
umbrellas

i'm on the 5d train too!
let's negotiate a group discounted buy!
haha, yea right!
Christine
Oh, if you get that group buy with the discount going, can I get in on it too? ;-) I need another 5D body. Like everyone else, holding off for the tradeshow!

Dont forget about Calumet...

Last year I bought from Calumet and Samy's.

I picked up a used 80-200 2.8 for $300 from Samy's (they had their stuff there with them)

Calumet was doing 10% or 15% off (I can't remember which one). They made a quote up for me for an S5 and a bunch of accessories and they honored the quote for about a month after the show. They also offered 1 year no-interest financing in addition to the discount. Shipping took a week and a half or so but it was worth it to me.

I'll check the other dealers first, but I plan on buying from Calumet again.

Would it be unethical to start a thread soley for WPPIers to share the promo codes with us?
Jennifer Grigg

Hey Lisa!
I'm going to WPPI for the first time next year and am not sure about Shootsacs having a discount but you really need to get on The Shootsacs email list because she does on occasion run specials through the year. You can sign-up on her Shootsac blog.

I signed up on the email list last fall and when Jessica Claire runs specials on Shootsacs or the covers - she sends it out via an email blast for a short period of time. In fact the last email blast (in Jan? or Feb?) her new covers were all on sale and I bought several of them.

Hope that helps you out a bit =)
