Stupidly, I decided to by the Canon 5D on ebay....why you may ask...well because the package I found was 600 bucks cheaper and came with a ton of other stuff. I did my homework, checked the customer reviews and called before making the order. It seemed legit. They assured me it was factor sealed w/ USA warranty
Well ... almost two weeks later and NO PACKAGE!!!!
First of all I payed 60 bucks more for two day shipping....five days later, still no package.
I called and called and the assured me it was on its way and was suppose to be here by TODAY (2/20) Well the ups code they gave me had no package associated with it, so I called and they told me that they had to call ups and return the package to them, because they forgot to scan it.... does that sound like a load of bull or what?
Then I called to tell them that I wanted the package by tomorrow or they needed to refund me the money. (note: I was in wal-mart shopping for groceries when I made this call) They guy told me that it would be 100 bucks extra (after I already payed 60 for shipping) I told him I was not going to pay that because I already paid for two day shipping and they failed on their agreement....then.....the man started yelling at me...really yelling...he kept telling me he was going to hang up on me, I said "sir I am your customer. Please do not hang up on me"....I said "can you please transfer me then to someone I can talk to?" He responded....(yelling) " I am the ONLY ONE you can talk to, and I am not going to talk to you!!!"...click...he hung up on me!!!! I started crying, and three people (seriously three people) came up to me asking if I was okay...they said they could hear this man yelling at me!
Then my precious husband called form work...they told him it was rude of us to keep calling...he was like hello....we just forked out a bunch of cash and we have not received our product...the guy went on to say..."the only way that I will send you your package overnight is if you go on ebay and give us a good review"!! My husband was like no! The guys was like.. "thats the only way I can ship you your order"!!!
Because of one companies mistake...I will never order on ebay again...I would rather pay the extra money and order from a local store or adoroma (THEY ARE AMAZING BY THE WAY)
I am sorry is this not insane!!! Has anyone had any problems like this!! And please pray with me that my package will get here tomorrow!!

the seller was sunshineelec. With all their reviews, I swore they were legit...but if they tell everyone..."I will only ship your product if you give me a good review" then that could be the reason they have so much fedback...and they have tons and tons of items in there store but its just not worth it if you have to go through what we have!

and don't buy camera equipment from eBay any more! (sounds like you've already decided that -- cool)
but note to others: BUY YOUR EQUIPMENT FROM LEGIT VENDORS (amazon, B&H, your local camera shop).
Video games for your kid's DS? fine to get on eBay.
That rare Elf lunchbox you've been searching for? eBay is the way to go
The main piece of equipment for your business and income? DON'T GO TO EBAY FOR THAT. Pay the extra and get it from a legit seller. It's a tax write-off anyway, and you get to write off the purchase price, so pay a legit price and get it from a legit vendor.
I love eBay. I use eBay and PayPal often. But I wouldn't get camera equipment from eBay. It's just not worth the savings.

I have LEARNED my lesson.... Deep in my gut I knew I shouldn't have bought it.... however my flesh liked that I would be saving 600 bucks... I would probably buy from an Individual...but nothing that cost that much ever again....
The part that upsets me the most, is how the guy treated me

but in good faith I hope to have my package tomorrow!

As a general rule, I don't buy anything on ebay that cost more $ than I can afford to lose.
For example, while I might buy a used Nikon 50mm 1.8 for say 60 bucks, I would never buy a D3 just to save a few (or a few hundred) dollars. Because if I lost the $ I spent, it would take a serious hit to the budget.
That's my personal opinion anyway.

oH, I feel for you. I had this happen with a Christian Dior purse, like $75 but because it took 2 months and I didn't get it I reported it to my BofA credit card who refunded my money and I reported to ebay. I don't know what happened but I did get refunded. I think you just have to send them copies of all the info. I hope this gets better for you. When I was looking for a camera my husband tried to have me get it on ebay also but my gut told me NO WAY !!!!! I'LL BE PRAYING FOR YOU.

Amanda that sucks that the scum didn't ship the camera out. Some nerve telling your hubby that he'll only ship if you give positive feedback. I agree with the other poster that if you contact ebay, they'll take care of him. If you paid by credit card, see if your credit card company can help you out and reverse the charges. I never had problems like that ordering from ebay. I ordered things like a bunch of softballs but then again, I never ordered anything over 200.00. Please let us know what happens.

I bought a photoshop upgrade on ebay about a year ago.. and when I receive it my box contained 5 boxes of upgrades rather than just one (valuable!). I emailed the person who I purchased from and sent back the extras and they agreed to reimburse me for the shipping since I was so nice and honest. they never did though. what meanies.

Sorry to hear about this... This is the reason I will not buy anthing of greart value on e-bay. I would rather pay a little more and buy it from a legit source than go through something like this.
Hope it works out ok, but make sure to leave a review on ebay and report him.

as Carey said, for dvds, consule games, small bits and pieces old phones etc its great, but for large things its risky, mind you i bought my first canon 20d from ebay, but mainly because i found out that the guy lived 60 minutes drive away from where i lived so it was alright fortunately.

I've been buying and selling on eBay for around 6 years and have never had a terrible experience, though I hear about stories like yours. I've purchased and sold lots of photo gear ... no problems except for one film camera body that wasn't really as described. I am very careful though.
Definitely go through the complaint procedure on eBay. You didn't mention how you paid for this, but if it was through PayPal, you do have (limited) protection through them as well.

i bet you it wasnt really UPS that e-mailed you. they usually don't do that. you got screwed. report this seller to ebay immediately, leave NEGATIVE FEEDBACK, dispute payment with paypal and your CC company, and don't ever buy camera equipment on ebay ever again! not even memory cards. not even reflectors or radio triggers. sooo many people fall for this crap every day, STICK WITH REPUTABLE, REAL BUSINESSES like B&H, Calumet and Amazon.com and you'll be alright. they're in business for a reason - because they rock!
it makes me sick that people actually get away with this crap. if we're all a little more careful about what we really believe (like e-mails, phone calls etc.) theres a good chance we'd all have less instances like this.
best of luck. i hope you get this resolved ASAP

Gotta tell you...this is exactly why I don't sell much on Ebay anymore. I used to sell things time to time and every once in a while, you would get a buyer who would scam me and ebay/paypal did not want to see the signature from the USPS showing someone signed for the package at a verified address, didn't want to see the buyer bought 5 of the exact same items from different sellers in the same week (like 5 of the same type lens) and didn't want to see that I had 50 transactions of high value items there were perfect feedback and this single one that I was allegedly sending a smashed phone. They side with the buyer too often and with no real process. That is why I rarely sell there anymore.
I just sold 5 Epson printers and I was on edge until the positive feedback comes in or I get an email from them (must be thru ebay contact customer, not direct) saying they got it and are happy.
Between scamming buyers (NOT the OP in any way), lack of protection for sellers and rediculous selling/paypal fees...there is no point in it unless you are selling tons and have a 100% markup.
PS, the printers I just sold, Epson R260's for $30-50 each, without ink. Then I sold the ink for $37 each set. I found the printers sealed in the clearance section of Staples for $30 each, no rebates.
I did keep one for myself as a backup printer.

I can't stand ebay when it comes to big item purchases. There's just too much stress involved with it sometimes and it's just not worth it. Althought 600 bux is quite a savings. But still, not knowing what they may have done with the product and how legit things are, keeps me away. I've been ripped off too many times (as seller and buyer) to continue with big ticket items on ebay.

i've personally never had a bad experience with eBay.
i bought my D70s from a huge eBay store called Cameta Camera--and received my item the next day as promised!
I've bought and sold items here and there, and my dad has been using eBay even before they were so popular (for old-school camera items and vacuum tube audio stuff) and between the two of us there hasn't been a single transaction gone awry..

My husband and I have learned this lesson a few times.....
I bought a Nikkor lens on ebay that appeared to be a lemon - I did it to save money at a low time, and just wasted my money!
My husband bought a great NorthFace jacket, which ended up being a fake - the logo was stiched on & you could tell it wasn't authentic NorthFace. He did the whole fighting it & did finally get his money back, but with a whole lot of pain & suffering before he did.
AND, when he first signed up, ebay gave out the same username to two people & we kept getting items for another person! Strange!

J - I agree with you. I sell way more than I buy, which is why I know how paypal is. With ebay's new feedback system, I don't know that I'll be risking selling there much longer, at least not the small ticket stuff. People are already blackmailing sellers for positive feedback and the new policy hasn't even taken effect yet. HA!
