We are getting a flash site soon but heard that you also need an HTML site to get better placement.

Any truth in this?

Thanks,
Ran

Yes. You need some HTML text so that search engines like Google can index your site well.

Thats why you will see text at the bottom of splash pages- like "New York City Portrait and Wedding Photographer" for example.

OK here's a silly question, is there a difference between Flash and Splash?

And does the Blog play a huge part in all of this since it's mainly text?

Flash is vector animation software originally designed to create animations for display on the web. As photographers, a number of us have implemented Flash on our web sites in the form of photo slideshows.

As for "Splash", are you referring to a Splash page? I like to think of the Splash page as an intro to the rest of your site. I know that a lot of photogs, including myself, have a splash page that has direct links to my web site and blog. It's a nice way to call attention and direct a reader to certain portions of your site.

And yes, all the text on your blog is great for getting picked up in the search engines. Head over to the www.thebschoolblog.com Becker has a little video about it.

It's good to have flash and html, for the brides that don't have DSL they can still see
your site through html.....

The rule of thumb is that search engine spiders cannot index text in a Flash based site. But this can often be an over generalization based on the ACTUAL design of the site. Are you SURE that your site is 100% Flash, and not ASP, JSP, PHP, CFM or any number of other web languages that might allow the text to readable?

Get both... My site is flash, but I have html option. Not everyone has fast internet connections yet, so html was a must for me. Also, as others mentioned it is good for search engines: when I did a search for my site on google the results that I got were from html site, not flash.
