Ok, I'm in the state of Missouri. My wife and I and 2 children have always gotten returns. I'm not too worried about that this year, except my business posted a hefty profit for it's second year.

Now hefty to me is different to a lot of people. We're still below 35,000 total (my 3 part time jobs all paying in, and my business which I did not).

So effectively, my wife is worried I'll have to pay in like 20%, off that profit for "income tax/social security". I made like 21,000 with the business, but only 10-12,000 is profit.

I'm out of phone minutes until the 22nd, so I can't call my accountant.

Does anyone know a gerneral answer?

With this amount of information, it's impossible to tell you anything. However, you are most likely subject to self-employed person's tax (social security) at 14.9%
