I thought that printer looked really nice & fun!
Even though it's pricy compared to the Epson, I ordered it anways for many reasons:

1) The Epson has a much bigger footprint, and I didn't like the plastic swap-out trays. They seemed flimsy.
2) I already like my color laser for printing forms & paperwork, so I didn't need a full inkjet anyway
3) I didn't like the drying time for those Epson disk printers

I can hardly wait to get the shipment notification!
I like the look & description of it so much that I added it to MyFUNCamera's stuff page smile.gif

Anyone have this printer? Is it going to be as good as I hope it will be?
Elena
Carey, let us know how it is. I am looking for something similar.

Thanks.

i'd like to know about this as well. i read about it in ShutterBug or another photog magazine. seems great for its purpose

Please please let us know what you think when you get it. I saw it in Rangefinder too and almost ordered it.

wow that thing looks COOL!
i want one:)
JenStewartPhotography
I saw that when I got my Rangefinder on Wednesday and was very interested in it. We are looking for a new printer, and I'm trying to decide between an HP or an Epson, when I saw this little guy I was intrigued. Please let us know what you think and how it works! smile.gif

That looks cool!

I'd also like to hear your feedback after using it. I just picked up the Epson R280 only because it was discounted at a local CompUSA (which is going out of business). Haven't tried this one yet.
Barefoot-Memories
just got the shipping notification.... the new toy will be arriving early next week (hate slow cross country ground shipping!)

I'll let you know!!!!

Yes Carey please let us know....I cannot stop watching the video it just looks so cool. I am worried I would just love watching it create the images the way a cat loves the dryer. All the cool colors spinning and spinning smile.gif

I just ran across a review of this printer in PC Magazine. You can read it HERE.

It looks really cool. The only negative point is that it's only rated for 2,000 discs.

I wanted to get one for my day job, but the boss didn't think it was worth the cost.

Let us know if you like it.

Thank you so much for posting this. I was actually looking to buy one of these this month.

Still at 2,000 discs, well, it will be a while before I use it all up.
*coralee*
the printer life is rated for 2000 disks? Does it say how many disks (on average) can be printed having to replace the ink cartridge? I know that I have an older Epson R200 and although the ink cartridges are almost $85 to replace, I usually average almost 100 disks (and other misc. printing) on one set of cartridges..that's not too bad...
Barefoot-Memories
it's here!!! I'm so excited!!!
I have to go pick up kids from the park (they're with another family, I didn't just dump them there .... this time)

Then I want to play with it!!!
I'll show you the results!

first pix out of the box....
LOVE the size of it! it tucks right behind my monitors on my desk

here it is next to my other baby ... good for size reference

My Verdict:

I LOVE THIS LITTLE THING!!!!

Here's my first disk:

I made a .psd file with a layer that shows me right where the CD shape & hub will be, then I brought in my wave layers & CD text, saved that, so I have a nice template, then I dragged in an image from today, and PRINTED it right from PS.

I'm REALLY happy that it worked right from PS.

I didn't want to use the printer's software that came in the box. It didn't allow drag-in images, I could only "import" using the software's browse/open dialog (which bugs me).

The quality is really nice, it only took about a minute or so to print, and watching the disk spin inside was pretty fun, too!

This picture is from my point & shoot, so the colors don't do the disk justice (like the skin on the feet & faces -- that's NOT blown out on the actual disk)

The quality isn't PROPHOTO quality or anything, but it looks really nice, and better than my stick-on labels did! I think my clients will be happy & impressed, too.
I liked it so much, I put it on MyFUNCamera's STUFF page

(I ordered ink with it, because I wasn't 100% sure it would come with ink, but it does come with an ink cartridge)

Oooh, congrats on that nifty little thing!
Danielle Stolman
Carey,

Could you please elaborate on why you feel it is not pro quality?

It looks great, and would love to know more about how you are seeing it.

Thanks,

Danielle

I just meant that the photo itself doesn't look like a glossy high quality photo that you'd get printed from Mpix or Millers or something like that, or a snazzy music CD that you'd get at a store.

I think it looks REALLY good, and I have no problems making these for my clients.

Here's a nerdy vidoe of the printer in action.
I just happened to have my point & shoot on my desk while I was printing my first test:

Thanks for the clarification.

It says your video is no longer available on youtube?

Barefoot-Memories
it's still loading.... youtube hasn't finished processing it yet I think. it should show up soon
Danielle Stolman
It looks great and fun. I'm definitely going to have to get one.

Hmmmm... i love DYMO stuff. i have their LabelWriter 400 Turbo (which is just a big name for a postange printer).
I've been using LightScribe forever, cause i seriously dislike stick on CD labels. But LightScribe, while sleek and monochrom, take about 20 minutes per disc... FOREVER! I think i would really like to try this bad boy out!! wink.gif

I saw this at photoplus in NYC. I got to speak with one of the engineers and he sold me on the spot. Only problem was they were gonna be released 2 weeks later so as soon as I could I snatched one up and we love it!

Thanks for the review and video! I saw the ad too, I think I may get one.

FYI, I have an Epson RX 680 printer that I just got to replace my Canon MP600 printer. IT prints direct onto disks. But what I wanted was a glossy, photo-like disc. I found these... http://www.mediasupply.com/tayuwa16xdv5.html
After my first print, they look AWESOME! A Nice glossy photo, almost edge to edge and on these, you can print a bit more to the center. There was NO smudging and everthing was crystal clear the minute it came out of the printer. It was also dry to the touch when it came out. They recommend that you dry them for 24 hrs first but as a test, I tried to make it bleed and smudge it right out of the printer and it just wouldn't smudge! I also ran it under my sink water and it didn't bleed either!

I bought 50 CD's and 50 DVD's and I'm going to order some more. I'd love to see how these print on your little machine there!

Mos def thanks to tami for the bump on this one. And Carey for the review.

So does it print right onto the disk, and do you need special disks? That's how I got tricked by the lightscribe. tongue.gif
