Full Version: Grand Opening Tips

Our studio grand opening is on Saturday and we're at the mildly freaking out, totally overwhelmed, AHHHH! stage. I'm just wondering if you guys have any thoughts on what worked well for you, what absolutely did not work, and what you wish you would've done.

A little background, we're concentrating mostly on fashion photography with a little children's portrait work, as well. We are also doing the opening exhibition-style and have 1 other photographer (that does weddings) and 3 painters.

Some of the things we've done/are doing for the show:

1. Printed off some Moo cards with promos on the back

2. We're setting up a rockin' photo booth.
3. Stocking up on wine, pop (soda, for you crazy folk), water, and maybe a small keg of a micro brew.
4. Providing some light snacks
5. And, of course, lots of music

There are a lot more little things, but I'm just wondering if you guys can help me think of the things that I'm going to forget and think of later, or ideas for how to make it an awesome night.

Thanks!

A dedicated bartender might be a nice touch. It will add that "This isn't a college party" feel to the affair.

Oh, make sure there is lots of toilet paper.

Make sure you don't have a sign that says "Grand Openining," like my local ford dealership had! lol

I think that is all you really need to have thumbsup.gif I was thinking I might try and stop by to say hi to Grant but its the wife's birthday as well so plans are up in the air. Good luck if I don't make it!

Seriously, what better birthday present than an art opening! You could buy one of Grant's hawt lady paintings for her. Done and done!

Good call about the toilet paper. These are the things that I will absolutely forget until the day of!We are roping some friends into doing some bartending for us, so hopefully that will be covered.

I hope to make it...I really like the look you showed on your blog! I will tell you...you will try to think of everything and the one-two things that may get missed will be insignifcant in the grand scheme of things. Good Luck!!

Ha ha, that makes me think of my all-time favorite car-dealer marketing gimmick... those giant inflatable pants that just flop around like crazy to get your attention. I don't think they are supposed to be pants, but that's what they look like, and it's hilarious!

Good luck with the opening Sara!

Thanks, guys. I hope all of you Minnesota rockstars can make it, I wasn't able to come to the meetup, so it'd be great to finally meet all of you.

I just thought I'd drop in to say that the Grand Opening was amazing and way better than Laura or I ever imagined it would be. There were hundreds of people, we couldn't believe it, and the photobooth was hilarious.

Here are a few photos while I put the slideshow together:

The people in the back room were fawning over the moo cards and kept saying "this is such a great idea!" over and over again so those were apparently a great idea. wink.gif

A lot of people said that they loved them, too. We printed 200 and I think we only have around 30 left, so that's good. Thanks so much for coming!
