Full Version: Average cost of album designer

I just met with my friend who is a graphic designer and she really wants to start up a professional relationship with me. She is interested in designing my albums and cards for clients.

We both don't know how much the average album designer charges and how the whole process goes.
-do they give you the "negs" so you can make changes or use the design again, or do you just get the final product that you can only use for that client with a one time usage type thing.

I just can't decide if it's going to be worth it for either of us, because she's used to charging over $1000 for things, and I don't even make $1000 profit off the albums to give to her!

Thanks for your help

I've been doing a little bit of research into this and it seems like "average" (from my research) is in the $8-10 per page range. (So, $18-20 a spread).

Again, I have no idea if this is "average" but it was for the few companies that I looked into.

Is a page considered one side then?

Thanks!

Yup. (At least, in my scenario! smile.gif )

We've seen anywhere from $250-450 for a 30 page album. It costs less if they do the designer does initial design and then sends the files back to you to make any changes. It costs more if you want them to do all the changes. I imagine that it would cost even more if you want them to make adjustments/edits to your photos. We also do a final edit on all images selected for the album.

I have a friend working up a quote for me too. I told him what some are going for and showed him some sites. I can't afford those because I'd be in the hole by the time I ordered the album. One problem I might run into is pricing for different album sizes. Of course you'd sell a 10x10 40pg album for much more than a 5x5 40pg album. However the designer does the same about of work. So it might be raising album prices several hundred dollars, which to me is ridiculous. Some of the 5x5 albums I sell in the $100 range, well I know they won't move if I have to raise them to $300.
