Full Version: Looking for used Camera body/lens

Hey everyone!

My pastor's daughter is a senior in high school and is looking for a camera to start learning photography on. She is very sweet and says she loves photography and just wants to learn more about it. So if anyone has a camera laying around that they may be willing to sell I would appreciate the info. It probably needs to be on the lower budget end (five kids in their family) if possible.

Thanks for all your help!

Jenny,

I have a couple of cameras and a lens for sales here on OSP. D2X bodies and the 18-70 lens are still available. I will be adding a 60mm Macro lens later today.

I would appreciate her taking a look at them.

I still have a Canon 20D body that's sitting in storage and been wanting to sell it. It's the body only and I can let it go for $500.

We have a Rebel XTi, 18-55 lens, 4 batteries and grip available for sale. They have been used only for backup. We are asking $800.

I have a Rebel XT that I used to learn wedding photography. It has less than 10K clicks and in perfect wroking condition. I took good care of it, but has some corner scuffs. The original box, strap, two batteries, charger, all the paper works, CDs still available. I am asking $375+shipping. I don't have a lens, but the used kit lenses are available for $60-$70 or so. email or PM if interested.

Cheers.

Does it need to be a digital camera?
bsteffine
If it doesn't need to be digital, I'm not sure you can beat eBay for picking up a great film camera collection. Prices are so low and shooting film still might be the best way to learn (maybe, maybe not). But if you want inexpensive, that's my suggestion. If you need any recommendations, feel free to ask.

Otherwise, I have both a 10D and 20D I am looking to sell. They both have the vertical grip and extra batteries. PM or email me if interested.

Thanks for the info everyone! I will be passing this along. Probably a film camera is going to be in her budget more than digital, I hadn't even thought about it! Good point!

I've got a nikon D50 and the newest nikon 28-200 3.5-5.6 (awesome lens) that i'd be willing to sell for $425. This will include 5 batteries total 1 non-nikon and one nikon branded charger, and I think a 512 mb sd card.

I also have a 50 1.8 ($80), 60mm Micro Nikkor af-d ($150 no manuals no caps, and a bit beat up exterior but beautiful pictures), quantaray 75-300 ($80), Nikon 35 f/2 ($280 and in like new condition) and an 80-200 2.8 ($175 that needs about 275 in servicing).

Every standard lens is in LIKE NEW condition (as is the body with under 6k clicks) the only physically blemished lens is the 60mm micro but it's one of the sharpest pieces of glass i've ever used.

Feel free to pm with any reasonable offer, I'm making the switch to canon so i'd like to have it sold off before the season hits.

Cheers!

I'd have to disagree about the film... film gets expensive in the consumables very quickly, i mean at $6 bucks a roll lets say she shoots 10 rolls, that's 60 bucks. Then to get 10 rolls processed even at a place like shutterfly (which is nice and cheap) $3.99 just to get them processed then she'd still have to order prints which costs on top of that.... that's pretty darn expensive. Now imagine if you got it done at walmart or a target with the CD and it comes to like $10 bucksa pop, that's a total of $160.... it all adds up really quick. Heck, and the Digital CD's from walmart are pretty bad quality and resolution as well.

If she buys digital she can shoot clear card see the pics immeadietly, get the pics procesed how she wants, edit them however she wants and get them printed if she really wants to. The inital cost is more, sure, but there is such a savings in the end....

That's a very good point, Bryce ... definitely will impact her learning experience if the money is tight.

Yeah, i was just remembering when my friend rachel and I would shoot roll's of black and white... it was so expensive that we rarely did it so we didn't really learn all to much or get anything terribly creative. After I got my digital I was snapping photo's all the time, and learning tons. Heck just to be able to take some shots at different apertures and see the differences immeadietly helps the understanding process so much. And the ability to go to the exif data and see exactly what the settings were if you've forgotten... I'd have to say that it's priceless.

A used D60 would be hard to beat for cost, and it certainly isn't terribly technology. I still use mine all the time and get some great shots from it.

If you check ebay for d60's they're still rediculously priced. Hell what Bruce, Nudrat and I are offering is miles of a better deal with better performance to boot. Heck, right now you can pick up a Refurbished Xt body from Adorama for $334 body only....

However if you're offering yours I truly have no doubts you'd be able to give them the best deal, and if you had a kit lens sitting around to boot that would be quite an offer that would be truly giving.

I don't have any bodies lying around, but I do have a couple of my "beginner" lenses sitting on a shelf. A Nikkor 35-80 f/4-5.6 and a Nikon mount Sigma 100-300 f/4.5-6.7, both AF-D and in good condition. If she ends up with a Nikon body the pair can go for $60 shipped.
