I have been telling myself for a year now that I need to get insurance on my equipment and everything else....and I still have not. I am not sure what I need exactly and I have contacted two companies, but it seems so overwhelming. I am a member of PPA- but I know I need more coverage......I just have no idea what.

Any easy solutions? (note: I am sure it is very simple, just something I am not use to doing- so it kind of freaks me out-I want to make sure I am doing the right thing smile.gif)

They will take care of you - they handle photographers & know what you need. GREAT coverage, fairly cheap.

I have been to them.....but I guess I hesitate because I know two photographers tha thad to struggle with them to get them to pay for equipment that was stolen. One did finally get her money for the equipment, the other- only partial payment.

I guess I just need to bite the bullet and realize that there is going to be some hurdles no matter which route I take.

I was leaning toward Marsh.

do you have state farm in AZ? Are you part time or full time? they have an equipment policy for pt photogs with zero deductible all peril coverage... so if you get buglarized...covered. If you drop your slr in the ocean...covered. smile.gif Ask for an inland-marine policy.

Tawnya,

A struggle and a partial payment is still better than no payment. That would be really bad.

The most time consuming thing is to write down every item, serial number, purchase price and replacement price. And even that shouldn't take more than one hour. But it is kind of fun seeing all of your equipment written down (I need to get out more!).

I second the state farm. I have been worrying and thought this was one thing i needed to get done after having my business for three years. I called my agent that i have my car insurance with and it was so super easy. i mean now i wish i would have done it along time ago. I dont know that its the best but really its what i need it for. its so fast and really is a relief to know i have something.

I was on the same boat Tawnya, procrastinating cuz it seems so painful to commit not really knowing what it all entails. I used Hill and Usher and they walked me through it all, explained all in detail, answered my questions, it was simple. Told me what coverage I should have, I made a decision and wallah! I feel so much better cuz now I feel protected. Here's my contact person...

I worked for SF for nine years prior to staying at home with my boys. Get a Personal Articles Policy (PAP), it is an all-risk policy with no deductible. Doesn't matter what happens to equipment, it will be covered. I have all my photog. stuff on there smile.gif

thanks everyone for the suggestions. Rowena- that is exactly how I feel- so unsure, but I really need to get it.

I have emailed Hill and Usher and asked specific questions and asked them to respond via email- I have yet to hear back.

And about 1.5 years ago, we talked to our State Farm agent (for my huusbands business- and he said there was really nothing to offer) I even mentioned the inland marine policy and my husband said the guy seemed confussed- strange considering he has been an agent for a while smile.gif

I wish I could outsource this task to someone LOL!

Outsource to Hill & Usher - they will make it painless for you!

We've had good experiences with them. They paid quickly on the only claim we've had to submit - I dropped one of our camera and lens last year which shattered the lens and damaged the body. They had the replacement $$ to us in no time! It was a great experience.
