Full Version: Sharing and Scaling....

Selling digital products is crazy fascinating. It's 10am and to think that already this morning two photographers have ordered from the U.K. and two orders from Singapore and photographers from the Virgin Islands, Michigan, Florida, Massachusetts and Texas have all ordered Showit apps and I was having breakfast!

The thing that I love the most about this is that it all started with years and years of sharing knowledge and now my software company allows me to do what I'm really passionate about and that is sharing knowledge and encouraging photographers to find more ways to create freedom in their life. Many of you know that most of the speaking gigs I do are done completely for free. Not all of them of course but over 80% of the gigs I do I get paid zippo for and the reason is because I really believe that these principles will help people. Knowledge scales so well and by sharing it we elevate others and ourselves and my software company helps provide a way for me to do that.

Try it out today - if you haven't already - go out and share something that you've learned with somebody. You can do it on a blog or a forum or over email. You can call somebody or even better get together with someone and start sharing your knowledge...I think you'll find that by doing this you can grow your network and as Tim Sanders says, "Your Network is Your Networth" - Also, read on Tim Sanders blog about Comparing notes with a Competitor.

Rock on!

Great post, sharing your knowledge is so important. I really have enjoyed reading Tim Sanders, his ideas seem to be very basic and simple; but so few people actually follow them.

I have already seen the benefits and advantages of sharing my knowledge, and I hope I can share that with many other people. Thanks DJ.

aweome, DJ!

I have a software product, too, and tho it's not SHOWIT LARGE, it brings in a decent income so I can keep my photography prices low. I love being a photographer that I could afford, so I hear ya!

I was at ImagingUSA a few years ago, at my booth for EZPhotoSales, and a pretty well-known chick in the family portraits world came up to our booth, along with her gang of tagalong groupies following her around. One of them recognized me, introduced herself, and said some nice things about Barefoot Memories. This other lady (the "Queen") opened her eyes WIDE and said "OH!! YOU'RE THAT PERSON! Why the he*$ do you price your sessions the way you do?! That's just crazy. I've seen your site and your pricing. When I get home, I'm going to send you an email with what your pricing structure should be."
I said, "Thanks so much. But I'm not planning on changing much. I love building relationships with my clients, and most of them are families like me -- middle income, where a photography session with me isn't a luxury
purchase that they have to save up for. They're thilled with the CD they get, and they can print all the scrapbook pages they want, and get their 5x7s from Costco and fill their homes. I love that."
She looked at me with a straight face and (very seriously) said, "You're a f*(%$ing idiot."
Well, if I'm a f*&^%ing idiot, I'm a happy f&*^% idiot, and I wouldn't have it any other way!
If I didn't have my software bringing in income, I'd probably have to change my pricing, and not as many families would be able to afford sessions with me, so I know what you're saying, although a little different, it's the same idea..

Thanks for the tip DJ! I think I will find a way to do some sharing on my blog today.

The sharing that you do really does change people and the way they do business....at least it did for me! I'm not trying to brown-nose, but after coming to your seminar at WPPI last year, we changed a lot of what we did. We do the slideshows at the reception now and people love it! We do the slideshows after the weddings online with Show It and they love that too! It really elevated how our clients view us and that in turn elevates our business.

Keep up the great work! And keep sharing....I don't mind learning something new everyday!
