Hello All,

And here I've been counting down the days. Or should I wait until it's 9AMish in Vegas before I sell off my gear? smile.gif

I was sure that Nikon getting it's act together would spur Canon to action....

Looks like we'll get some new ELPHs though.

Woo. Hoo.

What about a Canon EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM?
Retail price is $11,999

Yeah, that's not much help either.

I don't think it's coming yet. Canon has never done a "...and one more thing" deal, and they have already announced their new releases. I keep hoping they do it, but it looks like it will be at photokina in the fall instead.

Yeah, I'm guessing fall. The 5D still sells so well, why change it?

It is interesting to see Sony's announcement of the 24-70 2.8 Zeiss lens. A third player for the pro market, especially one with Sony's resources, would be fantastic for us. I'm guessing it would be at least 3 years even if they did want to play (which they probably don't).

I would like to have a 2nd FF body, but I'll hold off. For not having to clean my sensor before every job, I'll wait. Not to mention 1 full stop less noise. Live view might be interesting as well.

I wonder why they don't announce a release date - no doubt folks held off buying a 5D in anticipation of a PMA announcement.

First day of PMA, not sure this cat and mouse game is over yet...

I would hardly consider an XSi a replacement for a 5d....40d MAYBE but certainly not a camera that looks like a postage stamp on the back of a 70-200.

OH, they want to play, and they're coming into the game STRONG!!!
Mera's working with them, and I'm sure she'll be popping into OSP to get us all up to date once she gets back from Vegas. But here's what I've gathered from looking at Sony's blog & news:

New FULL FRAME SENSOR pro-level camera, to be coming later this year.
AWESOME lenses (like that 24-70 f/2.8 you mentioned, and a lot more)
camera features:
-IN BODY Image Stabilization
-Dual-sensor technology that allows ULTRA FAST burst shooting (haven't seen a fps #, but it sounds like it'll be SUPER HIGH)
-AF live view on the LCD. This is COOL. The Mark III has live view on the LCD, but only in MF. Live view in AF mode will be awesome for sports shooters and wedding shooters (getting above the people at crowded events), and portrait folks like me can use it to get out from behind the camera & interact more with my subjects.

Mera texted me today just about jumping out of her skin at how excited she is about this "pro flagship" they've got. She's in Vegas w/Sony right now, and I guess the Sony booth is PACKED with people crowding around the display of that camera.

I'm excited to see it!

The more players there are, the more innovation will occur. Bring it on!

Maybe Canon will even have to have a product cycle that's shorter than the current 3 years.

That's awesome Mike!

I know Mera was supposed to talk for Sony today on the floor.

I wonder if this was her:

QUOTE
09:30: There's a lady on stage now who appears to be talking about cameras but there are so many buzzwords ('leveraging user experience') that I'm not sure.

I've never heard Mera use the words "leveraging user experience", but I know that she's been telling Sony that they need to LISTEN to their customers (especially women & mothers) and use (leverage) that input when designing features & new cameras, and she said Sony agrees wholeheartedly.

Lol, nice work Carey and Mike!
I'm all for it! But I wonder why they don't call it a "High End Dslr?" 24.6MP full frame isn't high end? Maybe it is some sort of layered chip so it's actually 8.2mp in RGB?

Confusing at first, but kind of cool the grip has all the controls of the body

Do you really think the XSi is better than the 40D? If so, why?
Matthew Kemmetmueller
Perhaps i wasnt clear Chad, I was saying that taking you'd be better off getting a 40d than a XSi IF you couldn't wait until october when the new 5d will be anounced....
theGreatDivorce
I'm disappointed they didn't announce anything either. All I want is upgraded AF and weather sealing. The 5D's IQ is more than good enough for me. I don't want the weight, price, or resolution of the 1Ds III.

If Nikon had better lenses I'd be rocking D3's right now.
