I recently bought a blu site - the other day tried to upload an mp3...it wouldn't let me do it because it said the file was too big! What to do?

Don't laugh - this is dumb I'm sure, but is there some way to resize an mp3? Did anyone else have this problem?
Chelo
I had the same problem. This is going to sound convoluted.

1. I went into my host account (I don't host with blu, I don't know if you have access)
2. The music file that attempted to load was there
3. I FTPd the song I wanted directly into my account (not through the blu interface)
4. I renamed the song the name that blu assigned to the original failed music file - and erased the failed music file.

I hope that makes some sense... wacko.gif

Cheyenne, what size is your file?

It's 8.21 MB...way too big, I know. Any ideas for how to resize? I am hosting with blu.
Lacey Buchorn
You can change the quality to a bit lower with audacity and it reduces the file size quite a bit.
Jamie Hack
What folder do you put it in the FTP?

I host with blu. I have the same troubles.

cheyenne, if you have the file in itunes, you can adjust the quality fairly quickly... hopefully it should work.

Here's what you do:
- click on the "iTunes" tab (next to "File") and click "Preferences"
- click the "advanced" tab
- click on "importing"
- adjust setting to "Good Quality"
- click "ok"

then go to the song you want (in iTunes)
- control + click the song title
- click "convert song to mp3

you might want to re-title it or add "slideshow" to the end of the duplicate file so that you can find it when you drag it to your desktop (or wherever you want to keep the file).

Hopefully, that should be easier for uploading to Blu.

yep... blu has a 5mb mp3 size cap.
LisaC
sometimes I can get 6mb if the site is being nice smile.gif

i use a program called Diet mp3 to solve this. smile.gif it shrinks the file down to 1/4 to 1/2 the size without a noticable difference in quality.

I've played with the file in Garage Band and removed the long beginnings or lame ends to make them smaller.

Hey Brooke, you cannot convert the file due to the DRM (digital rights managed) info that's embedded within the file... there are many different programs that might help you to get around this, but what you may want to do is just go to Amazon and purchase the song (don't quote me on this, but I *think* almost all of the songs are DRM free). Once you've purchased the song, you should be good to go with converting the file size through iTunes (via directions posted earlier).

Hope that helps!

Hey Brooke, try this, burn the song to a CD, import it back to Itunes, once the song is in the library, right click it and select convert to MP3, that's how I do it.

Cheers!
