Any one know where I can get the D3 now? BH has it backordered, with no anticipated date.
Jules
It's a matter of luck I think.

Call a local pro shop, that's your best bet. The sooner you get on a list, the sooner you'll get a camera.

Will B&H allow you to place the order?

Keep a close eye on DPReivew's D3 forum too.

Try KEH.com - Call ask for Ken and get on his list. He hooked my up with one last week. Tell him Steve from FL sent you.

I'm editing my first shoot with the D3 now. It was a maternity session on a freezing cold day, so everything was shot indoors.

My comparisons are based on the fact that my previous camera is a d200.

My initial observations? Best thing is that there's virtually no noise to remove from the pictures. This is speeding up my post time a LOT. I'm shooting RAW+Jpeg just to compare and contrast the difference and am using the jpgs in the final cuts! The jpgs are great with just a little extra saturation.

I took my off-camera flash, but NONE of those pictures came out good at ALL. The non-flash pictures at high ISO are fantastic. No flash was needed. I need more practice with this camera and the off-camera flash though simply because that off-camera flash look can add some nice depth sometimes. I don't know. I might be rethinking the whole way I shoot everything now. It sure would be nice to leave that flash at home. (Or in the car.)

Didn't mean to threadjack, but just pointing out that I LOVE THIS CAMERA (and need lots of practice to learn how to shoot with it in lots of situations.)

Jules & Steve THANK YOU...
Steve: will check it out.
Jules: Don't worry about thread jacking. I love your real life opinion. ITS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME!!! THANK YOU FOR THINKING OF POSTING INFO ON THE CAMERA!

Does anyone have a D300 & D3 to compare?

In regards to BH, you are not allowed to order or be on their list, my local Nikon retail store same thing.

I know they don't have it in stock, but you can order it online at RitzCamera.com and you will be placed in line. They should be able to tell you how far back you are online. They have 800 + stores so they are a pretty big buyer with Nikon. Good luck. I need to buy one, but just got to pay a couple more bills first. I can't wait, I am itching to have it in my hands.

I have a spare D3 (unused, boxed) if you want to fly over to the UK to collect it!

Couldn't you sell it to her and ship it?

I took prints from the yesterday's maternity shoot to the baby shower today and they got passed around the room. Everybody was oohing and aahing. YAY!!!

Second shoot today with new D3, almost all indoor stuff. Got more practice with the off-camera flash. I'll post some pictures once I get my act together. I'm LOVING this camera. I love that the sensor is so, um, sensitive. I can take pictures of a child napping in his crib with all the blinds closed! WOO HOO!

Hey Jules, I can't wait to see what you've been doing with your new camera. I have been on a waitlist since OCT and still have no idea when I'll get mine.

Please share some of these pics with us! smile.gif

I think it would cost far too much. Everything costs so much more over here and I'm guessing our D3s are more expensive to buy in Europe and plus shipping it would make it too costly.

Regas, if you want to see D3 images & setting info check this blog out: http://jvsd3.bigfolioblog.com

thank you all for posting, I am still looking for one, not super rush but I have the $ and don't want to settle for the d300, for once I want to splurge.

If you've got to have it now, eBay always has it in stock, though you do have to pay a bit of a premium.

for this stuff I only trust places like BH or a local reseller (Pitman PHoto) I would not want to get the camera and it all be in another language or something. I'm afraid, there is a lot of bad stuff sold there, I love ebay for other things but would not buy this from there.
