OpenSourcePhoto > YA wanna FIGHT! > Canon and Nikon

I generally don't make random posts like this, but I am SO EXCITED!

I've used a D40 for shooting with Melody and my own work, just bought a used D70 thinking that this wouldn't be in for a while since I got it straight from Nikon at a deal... wasn't expecting it for almost a month....

AND IT ARRIVED AT MY DOOR TODAY!

My God, it's beautiful.

That's all.
Misty
I hate you. boxing.gif

biggrin.gif Congrats! I'll have mine soon enough, I'm just being impatient. LOL

can you post some comparison pics at ISO 400 and above
**pretty please!!**

Oh goodness. There is going to be such a huge difference in image quality between this and the D70. When I got my D200 there was a HUGE difference in the sharpness and crispness of the images. I know the D300 is just blow your D70 away. I can't wait to get my hands on one!

Hey Lindsey,

Congratulations! Can you please elaborate on the "deal" you got straight from Nikon???

Thanks!
Mildred
Please talk about the deal from Nikon
Joy
I got my D300 last week, oohhhlala. here is a shot from new years at 3200 ISO

And one more, all this is available lamp light

One potentially huge problem that I have not had a chance to look further into though... I shot a wedding last weekend with Ryan Estes and it was the first real use I have had out of this camera towards the end of the reception it stopped focusing. Totally stopped. It was not the lens or any lens. I turned it off switched back to the D200 for a while went back started it up and all was fine. weird but scary. anyone know anything about this?

Oh and thanks to Ryan my new 85mm 1.4 arrived today, ooooh so super yummy.

That's kinda scary. That's one of the reasons why I never buy a new model within six months of its release. It happened to me with the first generation of the Nikon D70. But I REALLY need a new DSLR! I'm ordering my Nikon D300 next week! Please let us know if you figure out what was wrong with it. Otherwise, the images you posted are awesome! Available lamp light...wow!

+1 Tell us about the deal! w00t.gif

I'm really sorry to get you all so excited about a deal, because it was through something not available to everyone through a work arrangement smile.gif

I'll certainly post some comparison pics for you tomorrow! I am LOVING the noise factor. I brought it to work to show it off and might have a wedding because of it tongue.gif

OH No!! I just got my D-300 this week and the first set of pictures I tried to take with one of my fav lenses (85 1.4) it just wouldn't focus. Then, I put on the 50, 1.4 and got a shot off, but it still didn't seem to focus right. The ISO was at 800 with pretty low available light. I just hope this isn't a REAL proble. I've got to do some more testing. Keep us posted if you find out anything!

All nikons can only use the auto assist focus light when the focus selector is centered. If using the 51 point system it is easy to think you have it centered when it is not, hit center on the pad. It is still impressive without the assist light but a little slow.

Did you get it for $1365 before tax and shipping? That's what my buddy (my old boss) got his for from his work.

Eep, yeah, sorry about that.

Right after my promised samples, my whole last semester at college got messed up with some new information and now I am pretty much swamped until a few things get straightened out. Only posting because I have a meeting in a few minutes and might as well relax first smile.gif

I'll make a new post with the ISO samples when i get a chance; and with the pictures from the wedding with Melody with it biggrin.gif (Although there is that time getting used to new focus and such, so I found out the talent actually isN'T in the camera, lol.)

Edit: I LOVE that avatar, Sam smile.gif

All the nice things about the D300 having been said, it's low light capability is nowhere near the D3's and it's gunshot-like snappy/loud shutter really annoys me (and will attract attention when I don't want it).

Anyone have a silencing recommendation?
