Full Version: what desk top printer do you have?

So I have a Canon MP600-- nothing fantastic, it's been good to me-it prints photos though I never use this feature.
Basically use it for standard printing/ copying/ scanning.

Had I known more about Light scribe at the time I purchased it, I probably would have gone a whole different route.
So my thoughts are to sell this printer but would love any opinions on what to replace it with.

I need the basics- scan/copy... obviously looking for the Light scribe feature.
Any other bells and whistles optional-- would be cool if it faxed ... ?

The MP600 is a lot of machine- it eats a 1/3 of my desk so anything smaller would be great.

-or-

anybody recommend anything that just does the light scribing and doesn't take up a whole lot of space?? (and I would keep the desk eater)

TIA!!!

I thought Lighscribing was done through your CD/DVD burner? Is it being done through printers now?

I don't know about imacs, but I do know my husband's HP laptop does lightscribe.

don't think macs do, mine doesn't. But you can get a fairly cheap FW external DVD burner for cheap at places like buy.com, newegg, etc.

Lightscribe is done through an internal or external lightscribe DVD drive. If you just want the ability to print on discs, I have an Epson RX580 that I love!

I have an Epson R1800 for home printing and an HP 7350 for general printing.

Printers don't have anything to do with Lightscribe. I have a DVD drive that has Lightscribe, and to be honest, I am not that impressed with it.

It takes 10 minutes to Lightscribe a non-impressive (viewable) image on the disc. It won't wear off or run, but the 1 color image just seems so blahh, compared to a well done ink jet or laser jet label.

You might want to consider a printer with DVD/CD Printing tray and use Print on DVD's. sa

Realized that after posting...

Recommendations? Do you use/like it??

Have a LS external drive and it SUCKS. I'll gladly give it to you if you REALLY want it... I used it once or twice and said to heck with this. CDs looked OK but every single solitary DVD, no matter what brand media I used, looked hazy, fuzzy and just awful all around.

Get an Epson RX580. I paid $175 for it new at Sams over a year ago. The printable media looks great and is much easier to find. I get white disks and print the client's name and my logo on it in color. Very classy looking without using much printer ink either. smile.gif

That is my experience too.

Although I do like to use it for certain items. My clients actually like the look of it, but it's got to be a cool design. I've never tried a photo, only text and graphics.

Hi everybody! This is my first post after weeks of just looking around and learning a lot. Well my printer is a Canon Pro9500, I took advantage of this great printer because of a deal that Canon had when I bought my 5D, so I went nuts and paid $700+ for it but is worth it, highly recommended. By the way I just received in the mail the $500 rebate so actually had a great deal.
