Full Version: Skin Tone

I'm looking for some tips on how to get good, natural skin tones in post processing. I shoot raw, and I use both LR and CS3 in my workflow, mostly using presets (with some tweaking) in LR, and then applying any additional needed or wanted retouching, special effects, actions and sharpening in PS.

I know that skin tone is a weak point of mine. I usually tend toward being too reddish. My monitor is calibrated, so sometimes I wonder if I just need to train my eye better.

How do you all do it? I'm looking for some good suggestions to incorporate into my current workflow; I don't want to be spending time tweaking levels and curves in every photo from a shoot in PS (although I'm having to go back and do some of this on some recent photos that a client was unhappy with). Is there an easier way?

Thanks OSP!

if you have a good white balance to start with and aren't trying to push the saturation too far it all falls into place. Shoot a reference card or do a custom white balance and you will be on the money. Good luck!

One of the best things you can do is grab a file you know has printed well. Keep that image on your screen while color correcting images. This is your target image and acts as your constant guide.

(My life quote: "If you aim for nothing, you'll surely hit it!)

You need to establish an accepted point of reference. Now aim for it!
