Omg, i dont know what to do!

Ok, i just got my order from b&h with some lighting equipment in it and i decided to try it out. First i set up everything and it worked great, then all of a sudden my d300 says dead battery! The battery is fully charged and i get off about 5-7 frames and it says dead battery. If u turn it off and then back on it helps for another few frames but then it dies again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some one please help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance,
John Scarpa

Did you charge the battery according to the instructions?

yes, i did and i dont know what else could be the problem.

just finished sending a help letter to nikon, so they might be able to help me out without sending my new baby in.

If it works for a short time, then it is most likely a battery problem (which could be a faulty charger). Try another battery and charger.

I dont have any more of the en-el3e but i do have another charger that i can try.

Its charging as i type this. Thanks for the great idea!

This same thing happened to my D200 - it is a faulty battery.

One thing you can try is freezing it overnight. Then let it warm up to room temp before charging it again. These are 'smart' batteries and they have a chip in them that says if it is good or not... sometimes those chips forget that their new and the freezing thing can help.

I did this and it worked as a stop-gap until I got a replacement batt.

I would let B&H know, that way you can get the battery replaced.

just got off the phone with nikon and we reset every possible thing in the camera. hopefully this works, i have yet to fully try it out.

Also the nikon help desk has very nice people and they are very easy to work with!

EDIT/UPDATE: I had to reset the camera a bunch of times and now it seems to be working correctly. i only got to test it for a bit but i will give everyone a full report after i get to fully test it tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help everyone!!!

Problem fixed by reseting the camera. to do so, hold down the quality and compensation buttins for 3 seconds. Nikon is still looking into the problem but its a temporary fix for now.

John:

Any news on this problem? Mine has started doing the same thing....only with one lens (my Nikkor 70-200mm VR) I had thought it was a lens problem, until I re read this post!

Did you try a different battery?

I had some issues with my D300 and 70-200 VR recently as well. After posting the question here a member told me to clean the connectors with an easer. It's worked great ever since. I was amazed how dirty it actually was. My issue was that it would stop focusing, though. Just thought I would throw that out there. Cleaning it is worth a try too. smile.gif

I had that problem when using the D300 with my speedlight. But it didn't say dead battery, it just wouldn't take the photo. Sometimes it would just stop.. I would wait for the flash to recycle, then press the shutter release and nothing.. It was really frustrating. Is that the same problem you are having too? It was the first time that it had happened. It worked just during the shoots I did that morning and the day before without the flash.

Mine is working fine now and there have been no more problems since I cleaned it. I replied to your email too so check your inbox if you get a chance.

Hi there,
I have the d300 and had no problems until I tried using it with the 70-200 VR. After just 20 minutes of shooting with the 70-200 I started having the battery power issues.

I then did a search and found the solution at the dpreview forum:
here's the link to the thread

I purchased DeOxIt in a local store and easily applied it to both my camera and the lens. It completely solved the issue.

By the way, I have had no issues with other lenses or my speedlights.

I hope this helps! I love my D300!

Apparently the new firmware should fix this Dead Battery problem
