Check this out (give it some time to load)!!! Pretty exciting stuff! And check out the price! I would assume that this will bring the price of the D2X down as well!

Thanks to Nikon for leaking the info!

It's about time! And what a price. Yeay Nikon!

Nathan, it was good talking with you the other evening. I can't wait to see the results of your Barnsley Gardens wedding. I've played in a couple golf tournaments there, but never had the opportunity to shoot there. It'll be some of your best stuff yet.

Wonder if I have time to get rid of my D100 before it's announced smile.gif

Garrett! This may be your answer to your next camera(s)!!! I would go ahead and start talking to Sammy's, etc. to see if you can get on a list!!! This camera will sell faster than the D2X did!!!

What's the upgrade from the D100?

I would have bought the 5d from Canon if the fps were at least the 20d's (5fps)......so I'm just still waiting for "the one"...but wow...you have a nice price tag on that new d200.

Very nice....

when is this camera coming out?

Man, I had just about made us my mind to switch to Canon. I'm really not very happy with my D2X. I've never shot with the D100, do ya'll like it?
Nathan Holritz
KK, I would assume that the camera is for sale by the first of the year or so?

Choli! Wow! You didn't like your D2X? Please tell us why not? What happened?

The D100 I've been told isn't a great camera. I hear trying to shoot RAW is just a joke (SUPER slow...) I'm betting this upgrade will be pretty decent....

Choli,

not liking the D2X? please do tell. I have 2 and love them. The color coming out of them is amazing! the d100 was a good starter camera but that is it. With regards to your comment Chris, that is right, it is nearly impossible to shoot RAW with the d100 because the buffer is so slow. As good as the d200 might be, it will still be just a prosumer camera. I am really interested what you are shooting that the D2X can't handle?
ThomasAlan
I have a D100. Was my first digital SLR. It's way too slow in Raw mode. The D70 is sooooo much better in so many ways. I use my D100 now as a 3rd camera.

I'm sure the D200 will be a great camera.

It has been officially announced now: Nikon D200

Short List of Great Features:
Ai metering
10mp
Raw+JPG Fine
5fps
ISO 100-1600
Good physical size
Cam 1000 AF motor (kind of dissapointed here, but for <2000.00 I'm over it)

It is around 90% of what I wanted for less than I was willing to pay, looks great to me. I have not been able to confirm the price but I have read in numerous unofficial places that $1700.00 would be the price.

One of the most amazing features is its image processing that is the same as the D2X where you can edit the color channels independently acting like a 3CCD on a video camera.

"Industry-leading image processing for exceptional color performance: Incorporates Nikon's industry-leading advanced imaging processing engine of the D2x, which allows color-independent pre-conditioning prior to A/D conversion to work in symphony with advanced digital image processing algorithms to achieve fine color gradations with exceptionally smooth, consistent transitions."

DPreview has an article on it: http://www.dpreview.com/news/0511/05110104nikond200.asp

Ok, I realize that I should have expounded on my dissatisfaction with my D2X. Let me give a little history, I've only been shooting digital for three years. I started out with a Fuji S2 because the studio I worked for used them. Great cameras, easy to learn and the color is fantastic. Bought an S3 when they came out, pretty much hate that camera. The expanded dynamic range is nice, but overall it's a step down from the S2. So, since I already had all Nikon glass I figured I would go with a D2X.

I realize that this is probably just my bad luck, but my D2X has the worst auto focus. It's been back to Nikon 3 times. The images that it produced are soft so much so that it sits in my camera bag and I'm still using my Fujis. I've also had the hardest time nailing my white balance. I know a lot of people that are not happy with the D2X white balance, though most say that it just takes time to figure it out. This is key to me though because I shoot jpegs and the vast majority of my pictures from my fujis go straight to print from the camera. I don't want a 5k camera that requires me to correct every image. I run two companies, I don't have time for all that. tongue.gif

All this said, I talked to a Nikon rep yesterday. He told me I could replace my D2X for 1k, since I personally am convinced that I simply got a lemon. I have friends who have the D2X and they love them and get phenominal images from them, not the case for me. I've shown them files from my camera and they agree that something isn't right. So, maybe I'll give Nikon one more try before I jump ship and become a canon follower. I do really like the MarkIIn, shot with it last weekend and it was so nice.

yea i dont want to rain on the parade of nikon at all, because this is about their new camera and to me it makes no difference what you shoot..... but to me the mark IIn is the ideal wedding camera. period. i dont think i could even think up something better than that. its a wedding photographers dream camera.

I agree, it looks like it is going to be a pretty good camera. I love the smaller size, the D2x is way to big, especially with an 80-200 f-2.8 and flash.

The D2X's price is way to high anyway. I could buy two D200 bodies and a couple of good lenses for the price of the D2X. What do you think about the new DX/VR lens?

The lens doesn't do much for me but I think it will be well received. I really like fast primes but that 18-200mm could be decent for a general walk-around lens if it is sharp. It is great to see more AFS and VR lenses being introduced, I'd love an 85mm f-1.4 AFS.

I am intrigued by that macro flash, I don't know if I'd have enough use to buy it but I'd like to play with one.

Hey Joe,
New to this forum, but I must beg to differ on the new D200. From the sounds of it, and after reading about everything that there is available for the time being on it and on the forums, it sounds like this camera will be more like an entry level Pro camera without a doubt. The bells and whistles are clearly far and above anything a prosumer camera can ever come with, not to mention, that the buffer rate on this thing will make shooting weddings and other events just about perfect in Raw mode. And if the look and feel is anything like the F100, which I own and have been working with for sometime, I'm sold. Also, the finder with a 0.94x magnification will be hard to over look. I'm getting up there and the eyes are too.

laughing.gif Just messin'...Nikon does have a bit of a history with long waits between leak and release though. Looks like a good camera.

What is the major difference between the D2x and D200. In other words, why pay 3000 more for the D2x ? any ideas???

It's hard to say without seeing any hands on reviews. From what I've read I'd say:
Better AF
Possibly Better Viewfinder (that D200 popup flash makes me unsettled)
More MP's
High Speed Crop
Wireless Image Transmitter

Past history shows that you should be able to get the camera in your hands somewhere between 3 and 6 months from now. Once it hits the stores don't expect to be able to buy one right away, this D200 will probably sell out and Nikon doesn't have a great history of meeting initial demand.

On paper the camera looks like it will be an N90s/F100 level body, some features may have been crippled but I think it will fit in very well for <2000.00.
