I had the opportunity to shoot with a couple of models last week and do some headshots for them. One of the models had big beautiful eyes, but here pupils were huge! Take a look at the photo below. I'm content with the way the image came out, but can you give me some advice as to how to work with the eyes better? I think I will bring up the ambient light in the room next time (a suggestion I already received) but other than that, I'm not sure what to do to make this better...

Brad...it looks nice, but a couple of things could make it better. Raise your light...it's a bit too low. And the lighting looks a bit harsh. How far away is your light from the subject? Move that light in as close as possible for the softest light. Pull your light around a bit more to camera left and feather the light then add a reflector to the other side if needed.

HTH,

Kim

Kim,

Thanks for the suggestions! I will definitely put them into practice this Friday on my next shoot!

this isn't pupil related, but having the eyes follow the nose will make the shot look a bit better as well. Its a pretty standard traditional portrait rule. Just some extra turn of the head for in lens poses.
