I just got my Christmas cards in from MPIX. I usually use WHCC for press printed stuff, but I thought I would use Mpix this time. They are on the pearl paper, and please correct me if I am wrong, but I have ordered pearl paper before, from WHCC and it had a gloss over it. Am I crazy? am I remembering correctly? My husband likes the cards, but I think something about the pearl paper makes the images look too soft.

I am just wondering if anyone has gotten pearl paper from MPIX with a UV coating on it? I am wondering if the cards just missed a step or something. I guess they look fine but they are just not what I was hoping they would be.

Of course we'd love to see an example wink.gif

I haven't ordered pearl printing yet, but I hear great things! Was the price difference worth using MPIX? Maybe it'd be closer margins if you add the UV coating.

I just realized that I had to specify that I wanted the gloss coating on it. I am not sure If I am going to send them back for reprinting or not. Probably not. They are just for family anyway. Here is the card. I used templates from here

Charlotte... you know what I'm going to say... but I'll say it anyway: WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU THINKING? smashpc.gif boxing.gif

Mpix has been known for crummy press products... WHCC's pearl cards will never let you down.

Trevor, I know. I don't know why I decided to use mpix press. I have had such good luck with WHCC. I just thought I would try them out. Does WHCC's pearl automatically come with the coating? I can't remember.

I am still going back and forth with sending them back.

no, you have to select UV coating. I personally LOVE the non-coated cards I've gotten from whcc. I only coat my business cards and my pricing cards.... All greetings I don't coat

DARLING boys and cute card! Doesn't look like they have a problem to me... but I'm a HUGE texture fan and the FEEL of the card would make a difference to me (so I know where you're coming from).

I'll bet that your family/friends that get this will think it's the best one of the year!

Charlotte - as jessica said, you've got to select the UV coating in ROES, but what's really cool is that you can select to have only one or both sides coated! i personally love the UV coating (you saw my business cards, they are UV coated) but on postcards etc in pearl paper, i prefer to just UV coat the front side and leave the back un-coated... that way people can write on them easier.

good luck! :-)

claws in Trevor!

I'd have to look, but I don't think Mpix UV coats their pearl paper and it's not an option.

I got some pearl trifolds from WHCC with the UV coating, and it is beautiful, but $MAN$OH$MAN$!!!!!!! OUCH!

I got my own family cards from Mpix on pearl with the "Eden" template from my card shop:

I think the pearl is beautiful, and VERY comparable to WHCC without the UV coating. I've ordered 3 different card styles on pearl from WHCC & Mpix to test & compare, and MPix's color is more accurate, and the pearl is just as pretty as WHCC's. Granted, WHCC pearl w/UV coating is prettier, but it makes it really shiny. I like the matte/shine look w/o the UV coating for some things, and they sure cost me a LOT less.
