I've just been checking out the Drobo storage system. It looks a fantastic piece of kit and ideal for photographers.

Just wondered if anyone here is using it and if so what's your thoughts?

Hi Carl,

I am not using it right now but will be in the future.
I have been following the Drobo thread since this summer and visit the site regularly. As a matter of fact, I just finished one of their surveys that was sent asking what we would like to see in future releases of the unit. Myself I voted for an ethernet (network) port and the ability to synchonize 2 drobo units over the internet.

I am at least waiting for the ethernet port before I order.
I have been in the IT filed for over 20 years and I can honestly say that this is the easiest setup and pain free installation that I have seen for mirroring data. I want to dedicate my time to photography and don't really want to start fixing stuff all the time.

I've already purchased my drives, I am just waiting for the new Drobo!
For those who wants to check it out, here's the link:

By the way, I am not affiliated with this company in any way shape or form. They don't even know me. But I think this product has a lot of potential.

Not bad at $499 I just hope that here in the uk will not cost £499. I have checked CMS website but there is no price there.

Regards
Alfredo

I just asked this the other day. http://www.opensourcephoto.net/forum/index...mp;#entry239309 Seems this thing is getting some attention lately.

Yes, the unit is $499 but remember that it does not inlcude any drives. You must buy 2 or more drives for it to work.... So the cost is much higher than the $500 intial price.... The set up I am looking at is going to cost 2000+

But it seems well worth the cost. I want to order it now, but I am waiting for some unknown reason... fear maybe, laziness...both... I'll let you know when I order mine

If they had a DROBO with Firewire 800 or eSATA, I'd be all over it. Great looking product, but for now, it's a little slow for my taste.

I have a drobo coming a friend of mine has one also and it rocks! Yeah its only usb and not firewire but its used to secure your files not for speed hope they work on that thought

If anyone is interested i have a coupon code for $100.00 OFF the drobo if anyone is interested let me know ill find it and post.

I'm in the market for a Drobo. Please post the coupon code if you've got it. Thanks!
