Hi guys, I just got this client who is an african american and his wife to be is asian. His suit is gonna be black in colour and her's white.

I did some scouting of the wedding location and the lighting is pretty bad. Was wondering how you guys over the other side of the globe handle situations like these??

I hope I did not offend anyone here, this is the first time I'm doing a wedding like this..... just wondered if i could get some pointers.

Eadwine,

Dude, your stuff is always amazing. Really. I know this doesn't answer your question, which I'm guessing was more technical in emphasis, but I'd say just do what comes naturally for you. You've got such a great eye for unique shots...

As to the problem of poor lighting, I'm sure if you're a bit more descriptive of the problem there's someone on the forum that can help you out. I wasn't sure if the problem you were asking help for was the contrast in black/white suit/dress or the poor lighting, or both... You might clarify a bit...?? smile.gif

heh, you're right man. the thing is, i saw some shots(1 or 2shots) of the grooms pre-wedding taken by another photographer.

there were definately contrast problems and either the brides dress was overexposed (just to be able to see the groom) or the groom was hiding in the shadows. ohmy.gif

use a flash...take it off camera and always have it closer to him...sounds like not much but it will make a difference.
You rock though dude and can do no wrong!

thanks guys... guess not using a flash is a no go. well we'll see on the day =)
keep on shooting

Bad lighting situations seems to always be in my stars. Everyone getting married at night in dark venues!

I'm still trying to figure it out! I tried out Pepper Nix's recommended
"pepper popper" fix this past weekend for the first dance (the band was supposed to light the dance floor and failed to do so - it was outside and almost pitch black!!).

Solution= BIG MONSTER flashlight with diffusion paper layers=fake sun!!

That's my buddy Andy being a cheese and providing me with a little "sunlight" out in the pitch dark. Notice the band's lights are pointing AWAY from the dance floor. LOL.

Inside these dark places, I generally use a flash w/omnibounce cover (will try fongdong one day!) and pointed it at the ceilings and walls. Set my camera to a low shutter speed to let in some of the warm ambient light....

I'd love to set up a bunch of 580s on a transmitter sometime and go crazy, just need to get about 2-3 more before I can do that....

I've got lots of studio lights but haven't been motivated to tote those along yet for a wedding...maybe some day...

Your guess is as good as mine!! Your work ROCks; can't wait to see what you do with them

Liana thanks for the post. Very cool. I saw Parker Pfister do the same thing on the Digital Wedding DVD. I need to go back and look at it. He was using it indoors and the assistant was right up on the bride. I don't remember him using a difusser on it, but he must have.

I will be bringing a fongdong v2 down to Atlanta with me. You can try it out if you like.
