Real quick question for all you 5D owners out there?
Do you buffer out the camera and get stuck waiting for it to write to the card? I shoot RAW, so I know that this makes a huge difference, but I've filled the buffer quite a few times and it's killing me. I don't even shoot in continuous or anything. This is the only reason I'm wanting the 5D Mk II to come out pronto.
What's your experience?
Thanks for your input.

When I shot Canon - ALL THE TIME!
I carried the 5d and the MKIIn (which has a buffer that goes on forever).

Yep. I shoot RAW + small JPEG and I fill it pretty easily.
My issue isn't how fast I fill the buffer, it's more how dang long it takes to clear! That's seriously my biggest gripe with the 5D, I really hope the next version comes with a bigger buffer that clears faster!
That's one reason I LOVE the Mark II N. That buffer goes on for ever like Eric said AND it clears really fast.

I don't know much about Canon specifics but if you have the option of RAW compressed and RAW uncompressed that can really affect the files size and buffer clearing. Compressed gives you just about all the quality of the uncompressed and is better on the buffer (at lease with Nikon).

not if you have:
1. fast cf cards
2. shoot jpg!

one thing i don't miss about shooting raw!

I'll fill it up maybe a couple times throughout the day, but I'm more of a one-shot kind of guy these days instead of just holding down the shutter like I used to. It is crazy how long it takes to clear, though! Wowzers!
I'm with Chris in hopes of the buffer getting faster in the next version.
I love my 5D though, and a slower buffer is a small price to pay for these amazing images!

I've definately filled the buffer when shooting in raw. I would agree with the others that it would be a much needed update in the 7d. (or whatever the name will be)

I max it out pretty often. I shoot RAW and I shoot lifestyle action...so alot of time I machine gun it. Having 2 5D bodies helps...but still. That's why I want the Mark III 1Ds. Would I trade shooting RAW to avoid maxing the buffer-not a chance.

I max it out often shooting RAW. Yeah, it's a nuisance at times, but whatever. I'm alright with it for now.
Shot my last wedding entirely in jpeg...of course, no problems there.

Rarely ... but it does happen sometimes.

I never have..and I shoot RAW. Hmmm...now I'm wondering why. Could it be the speed of the cards? I use the Extreme cards.??

I use Extreme III cards and tried Extreme IV and there was no difference. I think Chris said it best, it's not the filling up I have a problem, it's how long it takes to clear is what kills me.

I shoot .jpg and fill it up all the time. I guess that's just my style.
