Hey Everyone.

I am going to New York City to do a couple e-sessions for clients getting married out here in Colorado. I need some recommendations on places to stay in the city that aren't too expensive but not a dive. Any suggestions from you New Yorkers would be great.

Thanks,

James

That's a tough one. Have you tried Priceline?

I stayed once at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Tribeca... Pretty cheap, good area, right by the subway, and decent rooms. Nothing too fancy, but it wasn't scary! smile.gif

Stay at the Meadowlands Plaza Hotel in Secaucus NJ. Trust me - best place for convenience/cost in the entire area. smile.gif

This is where I usually stay when I go to NYC...

It's an older hotel so don't expect the rooms to be perfect and the elevator is sllloooow (I swear there are gerbils in wheels running it up and down) but it's in a fantastic location (literally a block from Times Square and right next to Rockefeller Center). But it's nice, clean, affordable, and right next door to a fabulous little deli where I always eat breakfast when I'm there. It's super convienent to just about anything.

Yeah, but... then you have to schlep into and out of the city. Yes, it's only a few miles from the Lincoln Tunnel, but at least if you stayed in the city you could spend his down time in NYC and not.... Secaucus.

Plus James, you are writing off the trip so it's not as expensive as it seems. You might want to look at craigslist too.

We just head into the city in the morning, leave at night - spend ALL your "downtime" in the city but not have to sleep there & pay crazy sleeping fees. I guess if you're going to be in your room, stay in NYC so you can see the city. if you're going to experience the city, get the bus in from Secaucus & stay in NYC the whole day.

Hey James, I don't live in the city but i do train in a few times a month for different gigs. I would suggest the grand hyatt at park and grand central...I know you may look it up and see the prices are outrageous but they really arent!! Just go to priceline and put in that you want a 4-5 star hotel in midtown and you will most likely book there, the millenium or the W...This has just been my experience for the last year and a half. I never pay more than $100 a night which for a nice place in the city is fantastic...
just my 2 cents...best of luck :-)
p.s. if you will be shooting in the city...STAY in the city...getting in and out can be a pain and it is worth the extra dollars you spend otherwise all you saved on a cheap hotel will be spent on random needless travel.
Pam
Stay in the city if you can possibly afford it because it is scary to travel the subway or bus system with your camera equipment.

I'll be staying at the Skyline Hotel in January (http://www.skylinehotelny.com).

I have some friends who live within a block or two away from the hotel and they really like this spot. It is also very affordable!

Best of luck!

Thanks everyone...I have found a place to stay in Mid-town. I appreciate all the help from everyone.

Best,
