Hey I'm stuck with photoshop 6 for now. I desperately need to upgrade. I've heard amazing things about the cs's and also about lightroom but my budget for right now would mean that I'd have to decide between the two. What would you do? And what are the differences between the two programs?

thanks, anya

Lightroom is great! for basic color correcting, white balance, contrast. You can do just about everything you need in Lightroom...but...I still use photoshop for sharpening, adding watermarks, text and a bunch of other things. I also use Bridge for sorting all my photos and folders. I think Lightroom makes it difficult for this as it's hard to move files between folders and all that...but that could just be me.

Otherwise, if I were in your sit budget wise, I'd have to go with Lightroom -$299 I think right now as opposed to the Photoshop CS3 $699 or $999 for the Extended edition.

So you can't do text or watermarking on lightroom? Now I don't know I think I like the idea of being able to do a little more with my photos.
So let me get this right...basic color correcting, white balance, contrast is all you can do in lightroom?

But you can still use your current version of Photoshop for everything else.

Lightroom will improve your color correction workflow.
