Yep, that's a 9 not an 8! Don't ask me any questions because I honestly know nothing more but if you're on the market for a new Nikon flash, I'd suggest waiting a few months. Oh and don't buy a 50mm 1.4 either!
J Scott
Hmmm, how do you get the inside scoop on these things? So, I'm waiting for a D300, an SB-900...and a 50 ???
Shane Snider
Forget the flash...

Internal focusing 50 1.4????

Good times are here again!

It was the right time for me to switch back.
Hope the 900 is a major improvement over the 800 (which is no slouch).
RyanEstes
Hot diggity! Anyone want to buy a couple heavily-used SB-800's? Special for today only, $1000 each. (They're sure to become valuable collector's items.) smile.gif

Looking forward to the new 50 as well!

Are those question marks Mr Snider? I said no questions!!! wink.gif

OOoooooohhhh. I'm intrigued smile.gif

Oh Sofie,

You're such a tease. happy.gif
Jules
I was going to buy an 800 YESTERDAY but something told me to wait. Woo hoo!!!!!!!!!!!! So glad I listened to my inner adult for once.
BillCawley
Geez... I've got an 800 I've been slacking on selling since I don't use it anymore. Guess I'll get on that today!

I wonder what they could fix or improve on the 800?? water resistance maybe....

And, ya, it's awesome to see Nikon stepping up. I'll always be a 'Nikon shooter' at heart. I even have a D2X strap on my 1DmkIIn (I wonder if that's why that camera hates me?). wink.gif

They've done it before, so there's a good chance they'll do it again. I think the F-mount is too small for an 85/1.2.

But I'd stay up dreaming for a 50/1.2 AFS VR any day. Wouldn't that be sweet? Oh, sorry, that's not really a question.

Also, keep in mind... with the D3's ISO range (mine's on it's way! "Out for Delivery" accoring to the tracking number!!) and the 1.2 aperture, do you think we'll still need the VR feature on that lens?

I welcome a new flash, but why, oh why can't the camera manufacturers allow the pop up flash to swivel up further for bounce flash? It would cost them next to nothing and be a nice thing to have in making the pop up useful!
Rant over.

If they are following Canon's lead, the 900 will be much more expensive for little or no real gain - but it will probably have some esoteric feature that only works with the D3.

Hopefully a new flash will rotate 360 degrees!

This would be a better idea than making a new flash but then again all most companies are looking to make some money by making new products that appeal to us.

I have a couple of wishes too:-)

* LiIon-Energysystem
* faster recycling time
* support of ISO25000
* integrated Pocketwizzard
* long distance iTTL via the Pocketwizzard
* better connection to the camera with a way to get it really fixed.
* Price below 450 USD

amorphia

Jason Aten
They did announce two PC lenses... 85mm 2.8 and 45mm 2.8

I'm so glad that the 900 has a 360 degree rotation!!!

Sadly I don't think it's possible, if it is i bet the vignetting would be intense...

The 50 announcement should be coming at photokina, and possibly a 35 f/2 or f/1.8 with AFS.
JS Photo
A 35mm F1.4 afs would be so nice to have along with a 50mm f1.2 afs. Please nikon please!

I'm trying to dig info but sadly my guy works with the bodies not the lenses, he's going by what he's heard, so we have second hand rumors... the most reliable kind *sigh*.

But I do totally agree. a 35 1.4 or even just a re-release of the 35/2 with afs would be sweet. John if you have a body with an internal focus motor (note d40 or d60) and are looking to try a prime that can do an entire reception I totally cannot suggest that lens enough. It was my goto when i was nikon.

Could just use the 50mm 1.2 AI S. They still make it NEW. You just have to focus and Meter. I know! I know! Hey john what do you think we are Photographers or something?!?!?!?

It SO grates on my nerves that the 800 doesn't!

An f/1 lens might be possible with a few limitations. The main one being it would be an f/1.2 or f/1.4 on an FX body. But then, it wouldn't sell very well and it would be awfully expensive. Or you could just live with the vignetting.

The advantage would be low-light focusing, which probably doesn't warrant the expense of designing a lens with an additional 1/2 stop (or so).

I have used the 35 f2 on my d300 and it is so amazing! Although the 35 f1.4 would be amazing, I do agree with you in saying that a re-release of the 35 f2 with afs would be nice too.

I heard some one talking about this before, and they were also talking about if that is even possible with nikons lens mount because it may be too small to support the f1. Another question would be how big and heavy would it be? If I can find the link to where I saw that I will post it up.

Camera!

Mmmmmm $2000 less than the D3 and not as heavy!

Kind of funny, I just switched back to Nikon (this week) and I am soooo happy to see all of the lenses and bodies!!! Go NIKON!

Mr. McNally actually used a few

Ohhhh, very nice! Although, something about the models used and the environment is a little creepy!!!

I use a quantum turbo Compact.
the cord that connects the flash to the battery, does not work on the 900

Dont know why.
Shorts out the battery, and does not draw power from it.

WIERD

Both flashes, 3 cords, and 3 turbos.

Its the Flash units.

as far as i know the SB900 has no high voltage area.
Take a look at you quantum akku if the led-light is on.
Then try the same thing while you connect the quantum to you SB800. You will see a difference.
