You said you closed CS2, but did you remove the grid first? I just did that test too and if you remove the grid from the image and then restart CS2, you should be fine.
The 1-6 worked for me because I realized I was hitting "Extras" to turn off the grid, closing, opening and it was still there. I needed to go into "Show" then click "grid" off to make it work. I feel so silly
