Full Version: Ladies...what do you wear to weddings?? :P

Just curious, last year I wore pants from a JCrew pants suit, and plain, Banana Republic tee (the kind that's meant to be worn under a suit jacket), and comfy-but-not-dorky flats. My hair is always back in a ponytail/headband, and that won't change, but I felt curiously underdressed in the pants/top combo. I would NEVER wear a skirt because I'd be flashing people left and right, but I think I'd like to look a bit nicer. I like to stick to black and nuetrals, so as not to stick out like a sore thumb, but this is my first year with some really high end weddings so I'd like to look decent, lol.

There have been several threads about this, check out a recent one here:

I dont have any suggestions really as I am pretty lacking in style, but I am interested in what others do to class it up.

I wear petite dress pants with pockets, a black dressy top (I have a bunch that I switch around based on the weather) and really comfy black shoes - flat. Depending on the wedding, I might add a little jewelry to dress it up a bit, like nicer earrings and/or a necklace. Also if it's summer, I always take a change of shirt to put on for the reception so I'm not all sweaty and stinky and that allows me to dressy up a little more for the reception. I've had one wedding (outdoor beach wedding and reception) that told me to come in khakis and bright colors and to wear no shoes or flip flops. But that's the only time I dress differently is if requested.

Otherwise, no one at the wedding cares how "casual" you look as long as you are getting the job done and dressed for your profession. And you aren't wearing jeans smile.gif I think it's become pretty much known that the photog and video need to be comfortable and typically in dark colors.

This could be me! I just change my top depending on the weather - usually a black turtleneck for colder weather. If summer, something with a prettier neckline. One thing: I always wear make-up and fix my hair up to look professional. Pearls always look good too. Suits can be too restrictive for me, so I stick to the pants-blouse combo.

But one priority for me are the really comfy shoes - even if they look ugly. I've been wearing Alice Crocs lately. When it gets colder, I wear Merrell or Sketcher black leather sneakers. My pants run a little long, so the shoes are partially hidden by my slacks. I saw a behind-the-scenes wedding video with Julia Woods and she was wearing 3-inch heels. I DON'T know how she does it!!!

For me, it's always function over form. PLUS since I use a beltbag, people's eyes are usually drawn to the equipment on my hips rather than the clothes I'm wearing.

Black always work because it's important to be as unobtrusive as possible. And if you get in the shot of another photographer or videographer, black is the least distractive. But I agree with the others: any neutral dark color is a safe bet.

Thanks for the link, and input, off to check it out!Okay, well I'm all about color, and so is my style and site, so it's nice to hear that others dress appropriate, but with a nice splash of color too. smile.gif

If you are looking for a great pair of shoes, check out the website shoesforcrews.com It's a popular website for airline, restaurant and retail employees. My mom is on her feet running 3 restaurants 10-12 hours a day and swears by these shoes. She has the Mary Janes and loves them.

Oh, the one thing I DO have are great shoes. Have a few pairs of the Calyps style shoes by Sofft and ADORE them. After 14 hours of running, my feet still look good, and don't hurt.

I have a few suites that I rotate around, which are nice dress pants with a cuff on the leg, and a matching vest. Usually I wear a shirt with a collar under the vest. I think that if you want people to treat you like a professional, you should dress like one.

I've had the hardest time finding nice looking shoes that are comfortable! Right now I just wear a nice pair of cowboy boots, or my Ariat Fatbabys... which are the MOST comfortable shoes I've ever owned!

I try to keep things dark and neutral black trousers are a must biggrin.gif Also a must are very comfortable shoes or trainers, dark colours obviously.

Stay away from cerise or shocking pink, you can bet your a$$ that someone has already taken that look, there is always at least one item of clothing like that at every wedding. huh.gif

IMO it's usually a hat bandevil.gif pg.gif wacko.gif
