I'm looking for new Mac-compatible accounting software and would like to get some input first. Which program do you prefer? Why? Programs you dislike (and why)? Pros/cons, etc...?

Thanks!

I'm currently using Quicken for Home and Business and while it's been adequate up to this point - I'm also exploring other software options like Quickbooks. I'd also like to see what others have to say about mac compatible accounting software.

EXCEL!! Seriously, I LOVE excel and use it for EVERYTHING! If you know how to use it the possibilities are endless. I have Quickbooks and Quicken and don't use either because I like the flexibility that Excel gives me, plus I know how to use it and Quicken is a PITA for me. wink.gif

We use Quickbooks on our mac and have found it extremely helpful for our accounting. It takes some time to get everything set up and to learn all the details, but once you do it's a great way to keep track of what is coming in and going out. If you are wanting to start with a new program I would do so at the beginning of the new year so your books are on track right from the start of 2008. rolleyes.gif

There is a free version of Quickbooks available for small business but I'm not sure if it's feature-rich enough for every photog. It does seem like it covers all the basics pretty well, and is expandable for a growing biz.

Here is a Yahoo Finance article about it.

Also, I have used MYOB for the Mac in a networked studio environment and really liked it ... worth checking out!

We have Successware (which I do believe is cross-platform capatible). Relative to the huge COST for the program ($1500), I would not recommend it.

We could have purchased QuickBooks for $400 and acheived mostly the same results.

Well, that's good to know. We are looking into new accounting software for Bellissima Design and I wanted to review Successware. A lot of folks who use it rave about it. But, you know, there's a reason Quickbooks is the standard.

I think that the free Quickbooks is not cross platform, only PC.
